Any success stories?

To be completely honest, due to some really crappy luck over the last couple of years, I barely have any cash at all. But I have AWESOME credit.

 

Yes. And I think a great deal of it is attitude.

 

I did not know you was supposed to make money! I thought the object of the game is to see how little you can pay to get the honor of driving a big rig!

 

There was an article written recently in overdrive magazine that kinda summed it up. Basically, it pointed to the fact that the trucking industry has created a new economical group. They call it employed homeless. Work 70 hrs a week and make just enough for you to survive a few weeks at a time. They had a lot of great points, but the employed homeless thing really brought it all together. Didn't specify company driver or o/o.

 

You will find that their are lots of successful Owner Operators who make more money then Company drivers. You will also find Owner Operators who have lost their houses trying to do so. Risk has rewards. The quote below is one to live by. If you are talented, you want to be on your own. It not stay safe and let the company provide for you.

 

If you are with a good company... You can have the best of both worlds.

Truck on the fritz.... Call roadside. Get new. Drive through pick up your issued truck a few days or hours later. No big. No money concerns. Costs you nothing but a bit of time.

$50 a week for family insurance. Good insurance. Sounds perfect. Better than cutting that expense when you are an O/O... Because fuel is more important.

Paid vacations. Matching 401K... Yes please.

Upfront work makes for a great life.... We are very happy. Not even remotely interested in owning a truck but know that if we choose to in the future we make enough money to get one outright no "lease"

 

Bought a truck and trailer 42 years ago,enjoyed it for the most part,stayed with it,tried to use my head.Now,comfortably retired,zero debt.I guess that would be a success,to me anyway.Although,everyone will have their own definition of "success".
Would be a lot tougher to be sucessful in this day and age,from the way this industry looks and operates nowadays.JMHO,FWIW.
