Please be mindful the recruiter’s job is to recruit YOU.
If you are new to flatbed I highly encourage you to search for a company that offers hands-on-training with an experienced teacher/trainer. Flatbed can be very dangerous and costly if you do not know what you are doing.

After you receive an approval to begin training at E.W. Wylie you will be given a choice to fly or drive an Enterprise rental for orientation which begins each Monday of the week and lasts until Friday at check-out 12p.m. On Sunday you will arrive at the Biltmore Main and Suites in West Fargo, ND. Service is fairly descent. Return the rental immediately. You’re allowed to bring your spouse on the trip – car rental only. Please don’t ask if they will cover a flight for your spouse.

Driver turnarounds are way too high so company losses are on the rise. The powers that be are not paying attention. I am talking way above the Chief Operating Officer who does not have the ability to diffuse a disgruntled experience but adds more fuel. The Humble location closed last week (7-2016).

E.W. Wylie provides Subway cards for dinner in the amount of $10 for the week. Corporate training is class room style with a projector and one day outside of the classroom. In training you will be given an option to select a truck. Please don’t bother take WHATEVER they give you otherwise it will become another hassle.

First introduction to DM when he calls your phone after you’ve left a message is “WHAT”. Hello to the start of a downward disastrous spiral. Quit immediately if this happens and speak to the recruiter although nothing will change. Now you see why the business relationship becomes a form of HADES. You WILL NOT MAKE MONEY … I REPEAT YOU WILL NOT MAKE MONEY AT THIS COMPANY. I can prove how many miles I’ve driven along with the pay received. They WILL NOT have your best interest. Believe me…. And once you have taken the chance and you witness the same outcome, you will quit the company. They will demand you to return the truck to West Fargo, ND and pick up a load returning. UNBELIEVABLE!!! NOT written anywhere in the SOP's. If you do not agree to pick up a load to return the tractor, although you have terminated the employment you will be threatened. KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL NOT GET PAID FOR RETURNING THE TRACTOR. However, another threat is to report abandonment on your DAC report because you refused to pick up a load to make them money. You are driving 1,000 plus miles and you're not making money either. The Ops manager will say in demand with a rude and aggressive tone, “you will pay for the fuel cost associated with returning empty.” Fifteen minutes later you might receive a call from the Chief Operating Officer. What a BIG waste of time!!!!!!!

IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY YOU WILL NOT SEE THEM. Once you return home they will harass you (calling authorities) if you decline their telephone calls after only two days. Keep in mind you've been on the road for two months at this point and home for two days!!!!!! Talked to drivers who were out much longer say three months and made $2800/mo. living in California. GEEEEZ! Too many stories to write about on this post, maybe complete in an ebook. More details to come. These are not opinions but facts and all can be proven.

I have paid for this experience to give it to you for free. Heed wisely.Don't waste your time. Join a company whose management team is diverse and genuinely care about its team. Life is too short - get with a powerful team of players who will embrace your best!

    All the best!

    (((Whew)))
.... Sounds like you passed up a gem, my friend
Sometimes it's best to" fly under the radar", especially if you plan to give them their keys back but you are not out of the woods yet
.... Next time wait til you are on the high ground ( home time) before showing all your cards and remember to never charge the enemy when they occupy the high ground, this can be disastrous

The one thing I think didn't add up is where the OP wanted to refuse a load and just drive 1,000 miles empty to the terminal, and then complains the company wants to make money by having a load picked up to go back to the terminal. Of course they want to make money!!! Really... You expect to just refuse a load and run all that way empty? I got news for you. It costs a bunch of money to deadhead a truck that far. Any company whose driver wants to leave will usually route the driver in, which means a load WILL have to be picked up. And refusing a load at most places would wind up getting you fired. If I were the owner of the company and if you did refuse a load and deadhead more than 900 miles in to quit without written permission, I would've deducted the cost of fuel too and it would go on the record. You request not to deduct anything would mean nothing to me.

Another popular complaint I see is where drivers just quit on the road and then just leave it somewhere for the company to recover. And then they get surprised that they have "abandonment" on their DAC, and act as if they are getting singled out. Actually, ANYTIME a driver abandons a truck, it ALWAYS goes on the background record. And that's with every company in this industry.

That is a very good post and should be one of the top posts as a warning to others...

ive been in situations where we are finished here with a given company, I don't mind loading on the way back to the yard. It's either that or they recover the truck.

The biggest problem I have is land line phones. When Obama got elected my house was buried in robocalling.

At that point we disconnected the land line entirely. That was in 2008. It's cell phones now. Or nothing. I actually use the computer to make calls online. It's been going on 9 years since we threw the phone out. (We do keep prepaid cells, but these things are ration very strict) and frankly there is no problem being without a phone.

When I am home, there is no phone to ring. Until... 24 hours before expected on duty there is a satellite message that goes out to dispatch that we are loading up and are ready to go.

When Im off and at home. No one calls. Because there is nothing to call. They will just have to sit and stew or find someone else to do it.

A gem (lol)... remember the enemy can NEVER occupy the higher ground, although it may appear as if he does for a short period of time.

Read the post again- *I Quit* so I have every right to refuse any load at that point. Live and learn. I see why drivers abandon the trucks and .....

Ive rounded up dozens and hundreds of trucks in which angry people quit.

But not before they fill the qaulcomm with volumes and tomes on why they should quit.

I am going to offer a cookie to anyone who thinks that if you sat mad mad quiiter with had it boss together in a room for a hour and said no yelling, no Drama.

What's the problem? What is needed to fix the problem?

I think the OP said the problem with picking up a load was that they weren't going to pay him for it.?? Maybe I misread.

I drove for Wylie for two years and only quit when I got custody of my kids, it was by far the best company I ever drove for, plenty of miles and great pay and a new MACK truck. I am contemplating going back on the road and my first call will be to WYLIE.
