Steep Grade Info Source?

    I use big yellow signs by the road for grade planning...

    Seriously, pick the shortest route regardless of grade...may consider alternative route in winter weather

    That's not always the best strategy. For example the difference in mileage between Barstow California and Buffalo New York and running 70 or running 4 o to 44 is about 20 miles 70 being shorter but if I'm loaded over 30,000 I guarantee 40 is faster.

    I agree there are exceptions...and in that example you actually burn less fuel going along your way

    IF the OP is new he should probably plan on shortest route...that way he learns all of the passes and then can make educated choices in the future.
