Downshift help

    have a road test for a local tanker company this coming week ... 10 speed Eaton fuller most likely ... I can upshift real real smooth . But my down shift is real bad , any tips ? I really want this job n they're giving me a shot with no experience (recent Cdl grad) but I am scared of not getting it because of my down shift ..

    If they giving you a chance as a recent grad they know your deficiencies... Just calm down, don't panick. Focus on the road ahead, make safe turns, pay attention to signs on the road, lights and obey the speed limit.

    Backing is a big thing for companies, so make sure you do your best and do it slow don't rush yourself.

    You'll be ok. Think positive thoughts !

    Are are you planning on floating or double clutching? Can't help you with the double clutching. Haven't done it in years, and honestly see no reason to start again

    If you're floating let us know and we can help you out. Or if you're DC'ing someone else can help. Which one?

    gonna have to get the rpms down to at least 1000, to slam dunk it go lower like 900. Rev up a little as you take it out of gear and going to the next lower gear.

    You'll be ok. They know you only get better with practice. Now if you got hired as an "experienced" driver, you can bet your behind they would pay a lot more attention to your shifting.

    They know what they're getting with new drivers. You will be alright.

    I'll never understand that, floating is soooooo much easier. But ya gotta do what YOU'RE comfortable with. Downshifting can be tricky till you get the hang of it. I won't confuse you any, someone that's an expert double clutcher will be way more helpful than I could ever be

    I'll just say I agree with the other poster that said relax. They know they're getting a newer driver. If you can safely maneuver the truck they'll deal with the downshifting issues for a couple days (that's all it will take- prolly less).

    I was taught to double clutch at the school I went to , but I know i'm going to have to learn to float
