I run S. Cali to Chicago and back. Just drop and hook. It takes 6 days and around 4000 miles. This is the easiest lane in my opinion, you won't get the highest possible rates but you won't have the stress.

So, you folks think something is wrong here. Maybe you are right. 1099 jobs are the way Owner Operators are paid. We have to file our own taxes. I personally don't like paying taxes but I have to, so I do.
The influx of foreigners in trucking does bother me. I see them running cheap and effecting the rates. I don't want to see downward pressure on my income. So I want less competition, not more. Also, fraud is very easy if all you have to do is jump on a plane and go home. Who knows what actual backgrounds are on people from other countries. Giving access to our food supply chain to people from countries that are not our friends does not make sense to me.
Of course I could be wrong. But if you think I am correct, write your congressmen. -

You make your deal coming in the door. If you are a professional driver with enough experience and a clean record, you can basically write your own ticket with the right company.
I am currently an O/O leased to a company. I was a company driver here before paying cash for this truck. When I sat down during the hiring process, I was asked what I expected for pay. I named my price,.. he scoffed a little bit but told me he would give me 90 days to show that I was worth what I was asking for. If I couldnt produce,.. then he would cut it back or I would have to leave. 4 years later I am still here, driving my own truck.
If you are trying to marginalize a career inside of a large mega company,.. you are knocking on the wrong door. They have thousands of novice drivers to fill their seats who will work for much less.
Get some time under your seat and work into a position that reflects your work ethic and experience. Asking here who pays $0.50 CPM,.. chances are,. even if the number were dialed for you,.. you could not land the job. No offense,.. just how you come across when asking a question like that.

Coast to coast team freight and most tanker companies pay at or well above .45 cpm. You will never make an easy living hauling one way irregular route van/reefer freight. Why, there's no shortage of people willing to work for .30 cpm.
