I just got 7 cases of 'damaged' product.
    Company said destroy.

Receiver even tried to keep 2 of them.
Went back to truck there were 5 not 7.
Had to go back to office.
If I'm signing for 7 damaged cases, better be 7 on the trailer.

    tucker and gokiddogo Thank this.

Heard a story of a guy took a pulp temp of bananas.....well if you poke a hole in one banana in an enclosed area like a trailer a chemical goes out and turns them all brown. Whole load rejected went through all the OS&D protocols and ended up taking it to a bakery where they made them into banana bread. Another guy had blue berries not stacked right, think it was 10-12 pallets worth. Was at receiver in Denver and was paid all miles to return to shipper in California. So sometimes you make out with getting more miles or it becomes a pain sitting waiting what OS&D tells you to take it. Never roll off without reporting and getting a claim on rejected freight. Can get in big trouble or could end up with the bill.

There are a number of facilities that can care for your sick or dead reefer.

I once had a reefer that has given me fair warning coming across the Virgin River AZ towards Grand Junction Co intent to get to Denver to get it delivered. Choking in high range it was. It died in Grand Junction at the truckstop there 9 at night. Rain and 50 degrees. Set temp was 42. Dispatch gave two choices Salt Lake or Denver.

I chose Denver and ran the 70 right across in the night. Got into downtown at 7 am, found a Carrier, three men worked on it and was back up in a hour. Saved everything they did.

You cannot just sleep whenever you feel like it. The Hours of Service Laws do not work that way. With that said... if there is a little time built into your future appointment date and time to catch a little nap now and then go for it. Don't be late.

Yes and no on the damaged loads. USUALLY. Until you report to OSD, (Over Short and Damaged) and the company finds a wholesaler to unload the rest of it. IF they do, it's not your problem anymore. If it's Steak, meat or something similar they really keep an eye on you. You can seriously make some cash disposing of these things in a few moments, but it is a Federal Crime somewhere in the mountain of Laws with which we must comply.

You do get paid, a little bit. You have to fight for it. IF you don't speak up and have the documented proof from the actual dispatch via qualcomm you are not getting paid.

There are other concerns with reefer work, but I think I will leave it here.
