I would call dispatch now. A compliance person could fix that little snafu. That's ridiculous.

Edit: So you fueled and then went off duty? Ok. So all you really lost was a few minutes. Ok

Now I get it. Not so bad. The settings on your QCom are ridiculous, though.

If they tighten qualcomms to have 0 room for movement on private property then wow. Imagine the crazy wait times if you behind the wrong person in fuel lane whois on 30min break and cant/wont move 100ft until it's over.

Or the guy at loading door who has 7hrs of 10hr break completed. He will be saying... "My truck wont start, ive called a wrecker. Then 3 hrs later... it was just a bad battery conmection, i fixed it"

It's not an every night thing just like paying for a scale ticket isn't an every load thing but I do think the company's should give drivers leeway on that. I fully expect more of these truck stops to start doing away with free parking completely. Let the company pass the added expense onto the shippers IMO. If I'm running a full service truck stop I'm not letting anybody come in and hog a free parking space all night and make a mess of my parking lot unless they're there to spend money.

Usually you can call safety and get your log straightened out so your break started at the right time. They can go in there and doctor it up so your reset is when it should be.

First of all if it is Swift, the customer knew it was going to be late anyway otherwise they would have called a reputable truck company to haul their load.

Next advice would be to slow roll around like that for 40 minutes, keep checking the QC to make sure it is still Off Duty.If it switches to Drive, you usually have 4 minutes to manually change it back to Off Duty or Sleeper or even On Duty if the truck is moving after the 11 or 14. But even then you can move the truck illegally slow and short distance after the 11, or 14 or even in violation of the 8 hourr 30 minute break, slow and short distance only thing is the QC will be flashing red alert.

A better deal would be to cross into the truck stop, hit Off Duty and slow roll around looking for a spot to park. Don't worry about fuel til the morning. About 10 minutes before your 10 hour break is up, you're Off Duty, slow roll to the pumps and clean your windshields til the strike of 10 hours and hit On Duty/Pretrip and put your fuel in then. 15 minutes later you're rolling out to the highway. Every minute counts on ELD. With paper logs the day was more relaxed, no rush. With ELD you have to rush around from the minute the 14 starts which creates stress and fatigue.

It will be a cold day in hell before I'd drive a machine that dictated if I could look for a parking spot.

Swift doesn't allow split logs. So that's that.

I'm not sure how swift would handle it, but if I was in a situation where I had to park and only available spots were reserved, I'd be able to get reimbursed for the cost. Now, that's assuming I'm not doing something else stupid. Like skipping 10 truck stops in the last 20 miles. But say like last night. I spent the night in the only truck stop for 30 miles. 0.3 miles from shipper. Had there been no spots and I had no time, that would have been acceptable. You should ask your dispatch about situations like that.

At the same time, reimbursement process at swift leaves a lot to be desired. It's kind of unbelievable what y'all put up with.
