Excellent question! Too many people get trapped into buying a truck, because they only see $$$$, and not the overall. If you enjoy the headaches, the stress, and the potential of being in bad health from all of the endeavors. By all means, dive in head first. Enjoy the swim. Being an O/O is a crap shoot in Vegas. Roll the dice. Hopefully you roll a 7 or a 11 with the dice.

I do not want to bust your bubble......I am going to be brutally honest. You are not purchasing anything!:biggrin_25516: You are a glorified company driver that is paying the bills on the truck. If you cant take the truck where you want than it is not yours. You can pretend all you want. The problem is people want instant gratification and play pretend owner operator at any cost.

There are PLENTY of FINANCE companies out there that can arrange a lease purchase arrangement where YOU CONTROL THE TRUCK....PERIOD!!:yes2557: Thats right...you control where the truck is leased and you are totally responsible for everything! You can lease the truck where ever you want! THE TRUCK IS YOURS TO DO AS YOU PLEASE:biggrin_25525: When you have total say on your business and the truck then you are an owner operator......not until!!!

You are still a company driver until that point. It does not matter one bit how they disguise it (lease purchase). That is the brutal truth. I will argue tooth and nail against doing a fleece purchase where you drive. Ever hear of the saying "dont crap where you eat"? This also applies to trucking. Consider what I am telling you as "tough love" lol.

There are plenty of finance companies out there that will bankroll you a lease purchase. Its either you want to run your own business....or you want to play make believe owner operator AKA " (company fleece purchase driver) Your choice.:biggrin_25522:

Wow moglar? Are you okay? The purchase was through an OUTSIDE company. Their name is Pathway Leasing. (You can look them up)

I do control when and where I go....I have since I leased the truck onto Conway. (now XPO)

The lease was one from Conways Fleet. However, this was my choice. Pathway has trucks as they are a Stand Alone company that does SOME business with Conway. They also have leased drivers at a number of other operators like Landstar, Forward Air etc.

My lease agreement for the truck and my carrier agreement were 2 separate things with 2 different companies. However...thanks for your input?

By the way, Pathway is an amazing company. The truck was paid off in 2 years as opposed to 3 as the contract was written. They worked with the "lease fees" in order to give me a rather large benefit for knocking out the note a year early. Also, when my motor blew at 725k they worked with me in getting a full inframe and turbo done at no additional "interest" charges. $24k at KW in El Paso btw.

Perhaps you should take the time to read before opening your mouth. (or getting your anxious fingers in a frenzy)

Btw, Conway/XPO does not do a lease program along the lines of a swift or Schneider. They don't have ANY interest in your truck regardless of who you bought it from/financed it through.

    Starboyjim Thanks this.

Getstepn.... I read a tread here from 2014 that stated an average of $1.40 per mile... Does that still hood for 2016? And is that ALL miles or loaded only?

All miles are paid unless you specifically choose to boogie out of an area. The $1.40 is about right, but not entirely. Base rate hasn't changed. Bonus is still at .03 provided you hit 11k in a month. I hear stories about people missing that mark but I don't get how. (that's a separate topic I suppose) FSC varies by the week and is based on a national avg model. That's really the biggest factor in p/m pay. The fuel discount is generous. This week I averaged $.31 below posted price.
