Hello Fellows!! I am an independent Owner Operator hauling Dry Van loads for nearly 3 years on my own prior to that worked for one Chicago based company.. Back in the days it seemed like trucking is the best industry to start your financial independence. Everybody has got a truck including me but not everybody has got through rough 2015.Many carriers went belly up because of prices we saw in summer 2015 all the way to summer 2016.It has been very challenging year I must admit. I used to have 4 trucks with 4 drivers on the road and now its 2. Partly because of the market partly because of the breakdowns. It seems like Midwest is doing fairly decent right now.We either are going to see more carriers coming into the industry again or this spike is temporary..Lets hope market will appreciate our hard work. Let me know guys what are your thoughts on this. Will be glad to discuss. Thanks!!

What feedback are you looking for? There are plenty off loads in certain spots. Thing is we as a trucking community shoot ourselves in the foot. We bid lower and lower and lower on the loads. I, like many others have a certain price piont that is competive with other O/O heading into that area. Yet, when it is time for the backhaul or whatever you choose to call it, there is always someone cutting the rate down. Shippers, buyers, brokers all know this. So, naturally we pass, wait, and start again when it is less saturated in that area. I have trucked brokered loads, direct haul, etc. and it is all the same once someone comes in and undercuts the rate. As a collective, we need to stick together and live by the No Cheap Freight rule. Just saying.

Yea that is true!!! Just want to see what you think about market..It is not what it used to be, hopefully it will get better!

The market really does not care much. It is supply and demand. Yet, if the trucker would hold steadfast, we could alter it a bit. Fuel has risen, yet the rates drop. I loaded into an area I knew I could move out of with less friction. I called up a buyer, let him know he could count on a truck, sure sure sure no problem yada yada yada. Day of arrival, he tells me he gave the loads to a truck owner that booked the 5 loads he bought for $500 less per load. It is what it is. Needless to say I did something else. Happens everyday in every region.

Your better off buying a hotdog cart and hiring a babe in bikini to run it than buying a truck. Again, Why does everyone who gets into trucking want to buy a truck. There are much better businesses to start up than truckingDougA, Ruthless, thejackal and 1 other person Thank this.

There's SOME light at the end of the tunnel. Guys.
Someone posted a article from cnn.com. The oil business is starting back up. Albeit not as big was it once was. But it's a start. That means pipe to be hauled again and what not. And all those trucks that had nothing to haul and came into other territories of freight and helping the downslide in rates. Will be leaving for pipe again. Less trucks to compete with.bzinger, Lepton1, Oleg Komar and 1 other person Thank this. -
You want higher rates? Consider pulling something other than dry van. You are competing against far more drivers with dry van. Reefer or open deck are options.
Do you haul Hazmat? If not, then consider it.blairandgretchen, bzinger and Socal Xpress Thank this. -
Specialized. Just anything other than
"Well, I bought a dry van . . . "ramblingman, Rusty Trawler and Lepton1 Thank this. -
There is plenty of work in both dry van and reefer as well if guys would diversify a little from truck load general freight.Lepton1 and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Because you made this statement, you don't know what's really going on and if you think that this is bad, you were not around a long time.
Also when was the day?
If you got into this back in the 80's, that was the day, but the last 15 years, not!thejackal Thanks this.
