OK so here goes I've had my cdl for 15yrs long story short I let my experience go down over the years been driving a straight truck for the past 12 years for a produce company in Chicago doing route delivery so now I wanna get back in the real trucking game I want to learn intermodal I know Schneider is a good starter company and they teach you how it all works believe me I've done the research. So my plan is to get with them for a couple of years to get have them teach me and get my experience back on track. Then after that I want to become an o/o in the intermodal industry I know there is money to be made here in Chicago and the Midwest. Any opinions or advise?

This whole time you had a CDL-A?
-
Yep the whole time man ! Was 19 when I got my cdl class A went to star truck driving school. Couldn't find a job because I couldn't drive otr or regional because of my age back then plus companies couldn't insure me I'm 34 now my son is all grown up now and on his way to the Marines next year after he graduates he's the the other reason why I never got into trucking I didn't want to miss out on anything. But times are different now I'm married the wife is all for it she's very independent so being away from home won't be such a thing just until I can get my experience back on track to where I can be home every night or every other night

@JJKid is an o/o in intermodal, so he can explain to you if there's money.
I was with schneider for a while and did the container gig.Reddog2110 Thanks this. -
I know there is money in intermodal ! I know some guys who do it and are living a decent life I also know you're not going to rich off it. Living here in Chicago midwest region also the west and southwest region intermodal is very popular and growing ! So how was your experience with Schneider? Man when I'm up at 4am when I'm about to start my route and I'm driving down i-55 i-290 or i-90-94 that's all you see is intermodal or tractors Bob tailing with intermodal company sinage on there tractor's hardly any dry van or flat beds from what I'm seeing intermodal is growing and growing.

I have friend that's a company driver at JB here in Chicago, he loves it. Also, the guys working at my company like it too....ask JJKid we work in the same company...
Reddog2110 Thanks this. -
Waaasup rerm lol naw I think it was u was talking to about s&l cartage it didn't work out man as soon as there dispatch found out how Lil experience I had they couldn't do much for me . So in order for me to get in the game I have to start with a starter company n which I have no problem doing. Yeah I've looked into jb, swift, Schneider, and a few other but I think my choice would be the pumpkin patch lol I say at least a couple of years u know what I mean and then move on from there I appreciate your response man
RERM Thanks this. -
I'd recommend answering a AD on craigslist of some owner op looking for a driver, I know plenty of owner ops that trained their drivers in the intermodal thing, that would be like skipping a huge step for you, pay etc would be much more beneficial. As long as you had your CDL for a while and record is clean, insurance at any company will accept you
7seriestv and Reddog2110 Thank this. -
Mr reactor if you know anybody plz let me know I tried looking on Craigslist most are companies unless I'm looking in the wrong place lol let me know bro
