I am sorry but the whole back and forth from dock to driver and the 6 hour wait.... I wouldn't do it either. Hope it works out for you!

    Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

Have you looked into any of the other LTL's in your area?

Yes, got a call from FedEx Freight. I was super excited when I got the call earlier this week. The lady asked me if I was willing to go to one of their terminals stay at a hotel for 7 weeks, all expenses paid by FXF.

I said absolutely. I proceeded to ask what would I be doing those 7 weeks, she said getting all my endorsements and learning how to drive. I was confused. I stayed quiet for a moment, then told her I already have all endorsements and have experience driving. She then said she couldn't give me the position because that was some sort of "driving school" for people with less than a year of driving experience.
At that point I was confused, upset, angry ... just didn't get it so I told the lady I was willing to start all the way from the bottom as long as they give me the opportunity.
She said she was going to talk to her superior and get back to me. I knew at that point it was over.

Yeah, but just because she called and said that doesn't mean its over. I would keep on them. That might have been the recruiter or person trying to fill their positions for that certain kind of training. Your application or info may have been given to the wrong person. I would call back to someone else and talk to them and see if you could get better info if that is really the company you want to go with.

I worked for R&L as a linehaul driver at the Wilmington Ohio terminal way back in 2000 so it might be different now. When I first got hired all they mentioned was how great an employer they were, you can't do better, your one lucky employee, and how wonderful their resorts are. I got paid by the trip which averaged about $18 an hour then. No overtime. I was like an extra board driver. I had to report in at midnight to see what route I would be given if any. Some nights there wasn't enough work and they sent you home. You did not get paid for sitting there. I had a 40 mile one way drive so it pissed me off when they did that. Also they will write you up for very small violations. I got written up and got a big lecture for not puttng tire checks in my log book. I flagged my tire checks but didn't write tire check. The boss threaten my employment so I crumbled the paper and walked out.

From the conversation I had with the TM this morning doesn't sound like much has changed. They expect you to work over 10 hours and no OT. All straight time. I don't know how they get people to get on board. Only positive I see is that is 5 minutes away from home.

Worked with and talked to a couple former drivers from R&L.Said it was typical LTL,but above average.Yes,they delivered to places without docks. So some hand unloads. One thought the grass was greener somewhere else,bUT admitted he should have stayed.

That's why I don't want to leave this place just yet. I am way more happier here, then I would be at R&L. I don't see a fit with them.
