I have seen exactly what the OP is describing at Swift. The same thing happens at most megas and training companies.
Selling the school is just money in the bank to them. They will turn down no one in entering the school knowing full well many will never be employed in trucking. Once there, they could care less if you ever get your CDL. If you do manage against all odds to get your CDL from them, their is no guarantee you will ever make it to their orientation. What do they care, they made their money with that contract you signed to pay for their crappy 3 week school.
In orientation, you rarely find Swift students. Like 1 in 10 of the people in orientation ever went to the Swift driving school. Whats the deal when the schools are full every three weeks but rarely do any of them make it to orientation? The same thing that happened to the OP.
From orientation, maybe half, if lucky, will make it to a trainers truck. Their was nothing wrong with my application, but the whole 3-4 day orientation I spent at Swift was was spent correcting Swift job applications of these prospects so Swift can get these people in a truck. Many of the prospects I was in orientation with had omissions in their applications, just like the OP. Only at this time, Swift felt like they needed those drivers and coached them on making corrections to their applications so Swift could get them in a truck.
What the OP described seems like a common occurrence at Swift: lead you on with one thing, and drop you like a load of crap when the feel they don't need you.speedyk, KriegHund, MidWest_MacDaddy and 2 others Thank this. -
Ridiculous the way these companies treat some people. Too many stories like this one. Best of luck to you.

The thing that's amazing is that they get anyone to come to them after all the bad publicity online and elsewhere. New students, don't go to these mega carriers, your azzz could be dumped at a whim, do your research, get out and talk to some drivers personally, most will give you the right up front about companies. Stop going to the recruiter 1st, make them the last stop on your inquiry list!
MidWest_MacDaddy and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
I did my research. I actually ran a large truck stop. Truth is you hear good and bad about EVERY company. I chose swift because of their size and felt they had the most freight available. I knew I would t stay there forever but it was a beginning. And as for a starter company all of their reputations are the same. At the end of the day when all the dust settles they lost what would of been a good employee.
