And if a mistake is made, the numbers would be off. If the numbers are off, I check to see why. If my gross and net match what it should, then obviously everything was handled correctly. I have had to call to find out what something was a few times, or to correct a mistake they made. However, if the only two variable numbers match what they are supposed to be, then the non-variable numbers must match.

I've been living off of the load boards mainly. Anyway for the last couple of years. I've done alright. I do what I am asked to, and do what I say I'm going to and treat the customers of all brokers like they were my own.
But rates are down at least 17-20% from when I started.
Not having the burden of billing waiting for payment Filing ifta taxes etc will be worth it.
Plus I pay cash for fuel, I have a TCH fuel card but it's more of a pain than the few cents I save over cash.
Try to get detention or fuel surcharge out of any broker.
It's all in or don't take the load.
The best brokers I work for are Mercer and Landstar.
Sorry if I said a dirty word on a mercer site.
    Mercer being the easiest.
    Thanks for the luck!

I currently use an accounting program but I think I'm going to create a spreadsheet on my laptop & use it.

    What is section 179?

It's a form of how a depreciable asset is handled

Depreciation is taken over a number of years. Section 179 allows you to take a larger dollar amount then would normally be deducted in the first year and write it off in the year the asset was bought.

There are many reasons to use it, but details are to complicated for my mind to condense on a forum. Paying cash, large down payment, reducing a large tax bill in a given year, don't like dealing with depreciation schedules, less paperwork

The problem with Sec 179, the gov is always playing around with the dollar amount they allow.

So much for our load out of Spokane. For some reason we didn't get it. We called the agents but didn't seem at all positive.

So why not park that trailer & pull a flat while your talking to agents about conestoga freight? At least you would be making money in the mean time.

That stinks. The only loads I see that I know will load a CON are out of Kelma. And that's a bit of a hike from you. You also want to call and have the agent get something else. What's on the board is only a sampling of what he can get there. You might be OK with the Yakima loads but where they are going you arrival timing will determine if your sitting an hour or a week and I didn't look.

Not sure that's the answer. You have to get through the learning curve at some point. Once you start it you might as well see it through. I'm sure it's harder trying to learn Mercer and how conastogas work here at the same time. But reverting back to a SD isn't really the answer. They need to get to the right lane. Once there things should improve.

It's official, went to renew my drivers license today. No more CDL, no more haz mat test, no more medical card, no more TWIC (it expired back in July)

Drivers license $28 for 8 years (dmv said I could get the cdl back anytime in the next five years) (ain't going to happen)

Now if I could just quit looking at this pesky Mercer forum, I could retire in peace.:biggrin_25523:
