I am not a fan of towels anyway, you have to dry them. If I had a few bucks laying around I would invest in a microdry towel. They dry in very short time, take less space than a pair of underwear, and if you have 2 of them, you can wash one in the shower, rinse it, and it will dry rapidly. Gives you a clean towel every night and takes little space. I have a couple of these in extra large, folded they are less than 1" thick, 6" wide, and 4" tall. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TQAXDAO/ref=twister_dp_update?_encoding=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

Back when I swam competitively, I had a microdry towel that was an invention by Sammy Lee(Greg Louganis' personal coach and honorary member of my club team).. It was called 'The Sammy` and went everywhere I did....
Seriously, truck stops have towels for their showers, but don't expect them at company terminals.... -
Use a pair of dirty jeans to dry off. I've been practicing at home for years.
Y'all think one of them nylon knapsack bags would be good to keep a tablet in over my back when not around the truck?
Also wondering what y'all think about safes or lock boxes. Is there a way to chain a safe to your bunk? One big enough to hold a laptop and other electronics/valuables? Would y'all recommend something like this?Clover Thanks this. -
Pack one bag.
Your records certainly. Then there is clothing for 7 days all weather. shorts and tees through to negative 40 layers and oil skin suit for storms. Chain mail gloves and leather gloves to start off. Steel toe boots. (You wear them to the hiring hall...)
You can get the rest of the crap later when they assign you a truck. Stay light with a trainer.Weeezerd Thanks this. -
Oh sorry, i forgot this thread was asking about what students should bring specifically.
Do any of you (whom are no longer students) keep a napsack for your tablet? Or do any of you know if there is enough room for a safe? Do they make safes with an anchor to chain it around somethin in yer truck? -
thank you to all who have submitted to this thread i have found all 104 pages awesome reads in less than 3 days. If all goes well I will be starting as a flatbed regional driver for Roehl on the 17th or the 24th just depending on the drug screen...
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
wow, just found this...but i'm leaving in a few hours for orientation and mentoring with swift. Im taking greyhound of course. I TRIED to pack the only duffle bag i have BUT i would need my medium backpack for a carry on. I dont have the $15 for a stupid greyhound 2nd baggage ticket. Can i take a small-medium suitcase and my duffle or backpack? I know whatever has to stay with me on top bunk,...but would a small-medium (soft sided) suitcase be okay? They said bring 7-14 days of clothes,...and THAT plus a pillow and blanket wont fit,...not for a stupid bus anyway.

This is an old thread, I do not know if I have posted in it or not. Honestly if possible before you leave home to get on a trainers truck CALL or email the trainer and simply ask them how much room they have. Then pack accordingly. If you can't contact the trainer pack as little as you can. I recommend you take 5 to 6 days of clothes type depending on weather and same with shoes. Bring a pair of rubber boots too. Bring a small laptop or tablet otherwise LEAVE THE ELECTRONICS AT HOME TILL YOU GET YOUR OWN TRUCK. I know a guy that trains that actually made a guy leave a lot of electronics (GPS, GO PRO etc etc) in his wife's car. You are not going on a vacation you are entering another person's domain as a guest, act and pack accordingly.

If you pack TShirts, pack old ones that you can throw away and replace on road... Walmart stops are great for that...
