I'm not looking to leave my company (Schneider) anytime soon but I'm always looking online at different jobs in my area for when I make my 1 year mark. I often see jobs that require 1, 2, & some even 3 years experience...but then the job only might pay like 40 cents per mile, or $12-$16 an hour. I'm thinking why in the heck if I had 2-3 years experience would I take a job paying $12-16 an hour??? I live in Louisiana & we have many plants with contractor work & you can have ZERO experience & go in starting at $15-$20 an hour. I even had a job as a laborer once where all I did was SWEEP concrete for 10 hours a day & made $19 an hour. I know there are some insurance purposes but man! Idk maybe I'm missing something????

Its "Rare" that many of these non-union irregular route trucking jobs actually Elevate your pay in "Real" time raises.......

    Been a Joke for years............

See, They Lure people with experience with empty promises on elevating pay scales, Truth is.. They use that Line just to suffice their insurance company who Dictates age and experience, Not the Carrier

And when I say "Real" time pay increases..I'm talking about annual salaries going up $2-3 k PER YEAR EVERY YEAR until retirement.

But again, Sadly...A driver with 25 years of accident free experience will be paid virtually the same amount as a driver with 5 years accident free miles......

Don't Let these Fools Blind you with smoke n mirror tactics...

You want a Real Job driving a Truck?? You better Join the Union.. Or Find a driving Job with Everything in writing, So you can Live Better.

The pay is low because drivers accept it.

Too true though. Years of experience don't mean much when there's not some brain power behind it. Company advertises and if people apply, is it really the company's fault for trying?Plus, maybe the job fits that driver perfectly in some way or another. That's wishful thinking though

Now you understand the driver shortage. Companies estimate how many drivers they need based on freight demands. They calculate how many drivers they can hire based on company revenue & expenses. Their freight demands says they need 200 drivers while their accounting estimates they can only pay x CPM or X/hr and make profit on so many loads. Just because a company need 25 more drivers doesn't mean every driver is willing to work for what a company can afford to pay.

There are so many trucking companies, so it's difficult for 1 company to raise its rates to customers. Half the trucking companies think they can undercut any rate and figure out how to raise rates after they get the work, then they start cutting corners when they can't raise rates. It's too easy to start a trucking company or become a driver. It's in drivers' interest to help make it harder to become a driver.

You also have to consider most small and medium firms have to compete with Swift, JB, Schneider, Prime and the other megas. The mega's have the ability to negotiate volume discounts on fuel, tires, equipment, and just about anything they buy and have lower per mile costs. They can afford cheap freight.

If that were the case we would not see CRE, CRST and Swift entertaining videos on YouTube. It does take some skill.
