I agree. As a newbie and looking, I have already told some recruiters to call me back when they can meet or exceed what some of the others have offered.

On a serious note, I've got an old friend who has his master's in philosophy. He was gonna go for his doctorate, but his wife told him it was time he became the man of the family and started earning his keep. True story...
Oh yeah, he found out that he did NOT want to teach. What the hell ELSE are you gonna do with a degree of any type in philosophy?

@Thull .... I landed my 70k plus job with experience. Its definitely do able. And like others stated, the "good ones" don't necessarily advertise.

With the narrow minded frat rats running companies these days. Experience means nothing to them! I have 15 years experience as a machinist and have been replaced with a "manufacturing engineer". Most of whom, I can work circles around. But it's all about that mighty degree these days.
