Stand by to stand by. SOMEBODY here will take offense at that one.

While you're at WallyWorld buying patience, pick up a few gallons of elbow grease, a jar of humility, a box of I don't really care what you think, and a couple of cases of bottled water!

Here's where you use that I don't care what you think, that you just bought at WallyWorld.:D

Look, you're a rookie. You have a lot to learn, and a lot of mistakes to make. Don't ever take it personally if you become the valve that someone uses to vent their funny bone.
Remember, no matter who they are, or what their job is, they were rookies themselves. In fact the people who will laugh the most, are also most likely very insecure.

Don't give a #### what the company sees you as. Just concentrate on learning your job, and doing it well. After all, they are using you to hold the wheel, but you are using them to get the experience you need to move forward with a better company, when the time is right.

Man, so would I, if I knew anything...

AMEN to the set up. I had a lot of experience backing different types of trailers, with different vehicles, before trucking.
One thing I found was that it came naturally to me. But while I could do it, I'd have a hard time explaining how to do it to someone else.

Easy there MacD. I don't think he was actually trying to insult anyone.
Now look here young feller, I prefer Coke over Pepsi, and I can pee standing up!:p

I will pipe up here and say something.

Some of you are being difficult and opinionated. Don't We are here to help where possible. This is a form of battle, a learning curve. It is always stressful. Cars are NOT trucks. Period.

I can pound the table until St Michael the arch angel comes down, but I choose not to. Frankly when in battle we should try to find common ground and correct the professional flaws detected in one another's talk. There are hundreds if not thousands of years worth American by god trucking represented here tonight. I'll be ###### if you all start teasing one another like schoolkids. Shame on you. Get it together. Please.

If not for yourself, do it for the next newbie confronted with his or her personal hell of having to learn how to back.

just let truck idle when backing, don't be like others that you see. Then you will have time to react to the trailor

This young man is a natural trucker.

    A brother.

    Just takes practice.
    Very small adjustments.
Get Out And Look will help you tremendously, because it gives you a different, and better perception on what you are doing. It takes time to get used to the depth perception of looking back and through your peripheral vision as well. Don't rush, and never even consider what anyone thinks while your backing ( too many minds, no mind ), just focus on your task.

48 posts and the guy doesn't get the most important thing

    Do not overthink this.

It is so simple that my youngest son can do it and has in my storage lot.

    That said ...

    Really?

Learning to be a professional driver means driving anything you are given and doing it with consistent good results. In your case it may help you to have a real automatic (Allison) because you are overthinking the movements.

    So ...

Many go to an auto shift because it is easier for them, while others do it because they have to. I don't have many in my fleet but they serve a purpose on the Otr trucks I have running, saving fuel.

I get a kick out of these big bad truckers who boast they can drive, many can't no matter what tranny they have under them.
