And I wouldn't say it happened or was caused by adjusting tandems. Your boss hears you say that he immediately says preventable. These mechanical things happen that's all. You make a note of it onthe DVIR that the brake chamber came loose and needs repair. Just the facts man. You may even score a promotion and a raise for catching it before it killed someone.

Getsinyourblood, Ooops and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
Positive solution? You don't have a working brake. Pray the LEO does not stop you or you get in an accident.
That is not a simple thing as a flat.. you have a Major issue there...bzinger and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
Call your company and tell them to call road brkdown.Don't risk it.You should have called them the minute you noticed it rather then waiting for answers from the forum.austinmike and BoxCarKidd Thank this.

Get it repaired quickly

Cite the reg?
20% of the brakes on the rig need to be inop before an OOS order is issued. One out of 10 is 10%Licensed to kill, lilillill, wore out and 4 others Thank this. -
Don't be hard on the guy, Mark. This isn't ideal, but it's not an automatic OOS either. He's good to drive it to a shop and get it repaired.cumminskid123, wore out and BoxCarKidd Thank this.

I was just about to say that. 1 brake not functioning is NOT an OOS event.
Also, I doubt the brake is locked up, nor could it. The brake can that is dangling is what presses on the rod to apply twisting force on the S-cam to push the shoes into the drum. It works because the can is firmly attached to the axle. With the bracket broke off, the can is free to move as it TRIES to move the pushrod, so the pushrod does NOT move, and the brakes are NOT applied.
If you're a company driver, contact your company. If you're an O/O, limp it to the closest shop that can weld the bracket back onto the axle.cumminskid123, SLCTrucker, snowman_w900 and 5 others Thank this. -
Not hard on them, but seeing damage like that and the OP wants to keep driving.
So what is the gross weight? Are they going up and down mountains?
They scaled out, so they must be at a truck stop. I can see if driving and it happened, then yes if they can cage it to get to a repair shop.
But for the safety of their fellow drivers and the other folks on the road, why ask if they can keep on driving...Last edited: Sep 30, 2016
