reefer pros Im looking at a GD stainless steel reefer a 2001 with old style TK any idea on wgt of these tlrs thanks for info

13,700 if memory serves. It's been about 1998 since I had hauled nothing but great danes. FLD 120 weighed in at 16500 so... tare close to 30,000 Figure 1000 to 2000 for pallets, it works out to 48,000 in the box. But not by much.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I got a classic 70 condo I thought these GD ss trailers were heavier than 13700 lbs wow Im talking about a 53footer here thanks
-
Well, not by much, back in the day we tared R model macks with the new Heil Bulk tankers in 40 foot at 24,500 total before loading to the max legal then weight of 77500 I think it was bonuses were given for those who dared load to 80,000
I got caught loaded at 80000 in blatant violation of bridge law in New Market Maryland next morning at 4 am eastbound. 20 white shirted trainees wanting to be DOT officers stood quietly in the glass window as the big smokey instructor proceeded to point out my sins in the glare of the bright lights bumper to bumper occasionally pointing at each of the axle weight readouts followed by the gross. Before he gave me the green, I was resigned to a inspection from God himself in the back and prepared to quit the industry. But no. After 10 minutes in front of the bright lights for all to see on that scale house they let me out.KB3MMX and rollin coal Thank this. -
You see the Scale Ticket I posted?
One I had was alot more than 13700.
But there really are a lot of factors and different options though. -
The empty great dane is still 13700 on MY scale tickets. A bit of research shows a current model Utility Reefer (Look halfway down document) to scale at 13800 which is a improvement over what they usually weigh, somewhat heavy...)

A bit of fuel, a alumimum wheel set and other goodies reduce the weight of the danes we pulled. Now for FFE we had heavier reefers but no less capable because our Centuries were pretty light even with the two of us plus 1000 pounds added.
Everyone and their scale tickets are going to show different weights. If you are empty and are reasonably happy with your tare weights empty and able to carry a load, either 600 pounds of swinging beef per 2 foot of ceiling end to end or no less than 20 feet of deck space versus 25,000 pounds of product anywhere on the floor of the unit. (Unlike say a Ravens Flat covered where you could and did belly 52000 on 20 feet center.)
I can look at a stack of scale tickets all day and see a variety of numbers. Just becuse I sprout a number you might not agree with or show evidence that today's trailers are pretty close in weight brand new... does not mean trouble it's all good. As long you do not exceed 80,000 loaded. -
