I never have to get up to pee. Take Saw Palmetto capsules 2 or 3 times a day and that keeps you from having to pee during the night. I've been doing this for probably 20 yrs. or longer.

I'm too tired to research this silliness so I will just type out how I feel and let the chips fall where they may on this sleeper berth thing. The FMCSA does NOT give a rats rip if you get up 4 or 50 times to urinate during the period you are logging line 2. If you get up and walk inside a truck stop to urinate YOU ARE NOT CHANGING YOUR DUTY STATUS! What will get FMCSA attention during a SAFETY AUDIT is an excessive change from line 1 to 2 and line 2 to line 1 on your logs. Once you draw that line up to line 2 or 1 YOU ARE OFF DUTY, PERIOD! This sleeper berth issue is getting over complicated in this and some other forums. Drivers account for your time and follow your carriers instructions when it comes to your duty status. As for me I don't remember ever logging more then 15 minutes at a shipper/receiver or fueling. As a truck driver ALL time logged on line 4 is your enemy stay off that line unless you are legally required because of a change of duty status back on duty or some other issue. Oh BTW I don't ever remember logging a drug screen. I have been a CDL holder just about ever since the CDL law came into effect. In that time till my retirement I'm sure I took at least 40 drug tests. I never once got pinched by a MCSAP/CVSA/DOT officer, my company or the FMCSA for not logging these drug screens. If every trucker followed both the letter and the spirit of the FMCSA rules we would all be more like automatons and never get much work done because we would be eating that 70 hour clock up.

You really need to take a chill pill. There is nothing in the FMCSA rules that mandates getting up during the 10 hour break to releave yourself requires a change of duty status, NOTHING! Also no MCSAP/CVSA/DOT officer is going to issue you a log book ticket because you got up and took a leak. In fact the only time I remember changing my off duty status from line 2 to line 1 was once in 2011 when I got out of my tractor to check into a hotel because my AC went out in the APU. In this situation it is appropriate because there is a real change in your off duty status. If you keep this up I am going to ask you to post chapter and verse of the law requiring the things you are posting.

How many times has a DOT Officer followed anyone to the bathroom to see what they were doing, then back to the truck to check the logs to see if the time was logged? I am going to guess never, I am sure the DOT folks have better things to do than watching folks go take a leak.

    Precisely.

If the load doesn't require it, I usually try to run on a schedule. Start at 2-3am and stop by 4-5. Now, the only way I'll only spend 10hr in sleeper in this case is if I'm running out of 14 the day before. So I'll try to get up early and go.

I'd say on average I'm taking off 11-12 between 14's.

I go off duty when I get to the hotel then about an hour before my 10 is up I call the terminal asking when my trailers will be ready. If I already know my trailers are ready then I'll be down at the terminal before my 10 so I can get moving asap right after my pre trip. I do this regardless of what time it is day or night. I don't get paid for my 10 hours off duty or 30 minute break. On my 30 I get fuel, coffee, pee and continue on.
I try and maximize my time so I'm not sitting around more than I'm required to but then again I'm a line driver just running from terminal to terminal. I leave Monday night and home early Saturday morning.

If you were driving down the big road, pulled into a pickle park, set the brakes for a splash and dash, minute and a half max, and didnt touch your elog, jumped back behind the wheel of the truck and took off, are you in violation?

If there was a diesel bear
You're driving down the bigroad. You pull into a pickle park for a splash and dash....90 seconds. There's a diesel bear at your truck when you return. Are you in violation of not being current on your duty status?

If you were in the sleeper, got out for a splash and dash and came back to the truck and there was a diesel bear there, are you in violation?

No your not. However you might want to draw a line and note the stop before you left. People sometimes get this change of duty status thing confused. I could pull into a rest area and take a 30 minute break with my log still on line 3, however I should before I go back on duty log the break on line 1 then go back on line 3.

    TripleSix Thanks this.
