Because it's the people that don't mind bending over, that makes it tough on those of us who still have some spine, principles and integrity. And don't need some safety manager holding our hands.
That's why.
These big companies, don't have any spine, integrity or principles either, the way they cow down to the FMCSA, DOT and insurance companies. I ain't blame it all on the new drivers. But if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. Anything like having some idiot that knows nothing about trucking, other than whats written in a book, tell those of us who actually do know about trucking, how to do our jobs.
And you don't see anything wrong with that? You don't mind that? Just how far will you bend over? And for how long?

It doesn't matter what the "policy" was. It's was a parking lot. Doing about 10mph TOPS. There is nothing unsafe about not wearing a seat belt in a situation like he was in. And notice the key words in "SAFETY bonus".
Taking his safety bonus for that, is about as stupid as getting a ticket for not using your turn signal, when there's no one to signal to. -
LOL .... ok... you win... anyone that disagrees with you are just spineless and bending over.
as for me, I'll continue to safely drive for my company while those that are not safe drivers are culled from the herd... {shrug}
You enjoy that freedom of the road.

The company outline their safety rules... and how drivers qualify for the safety bonus... if they expect you to wear a seatbelt in a parking lot going 10mph... so be it... it's their program and their rules. He is now aware of the rules and expectations to qualify for future safety bonuses.
Or maybe there were other issues in play that you are not aware of and they opted to make a point and hope to get his attention.ZVar and UsualSuspect Thank this. -

Not to mention a fully loaded truck @ 80k pounds doing 10 mph is still a lot of force. You can still get thrown around a cab and maybe even enough to break an arm or leg that hit just wrong that would not have happened if a seat belt was on. I do tend to agree it's a silly rule because everything would have to align badly for the driver, but it is the company's rules.
As for the Safety Bonus, yes it's silly to call it that. Our company calls it a Safety Bonus too, even when stuff like not fueling the truck and fuel millage are all part of it. Should just call in a Bonus sure, but it's just a label. -
Agreed... and another aspect is that it just helps to create a habit of putting the seatbelt on all the time even if this example is a bit simplistic.
I asked my company before they hired me about a safety bonus and they just don't have anything like that... something like "we want safe drivers and if you are safe you will continue to drive for us"... so I guess my biweekly paycheck is my safety bonus... LOLBostonTanker and UsualSuspect Thank this. -
HA HA HA HA... Oh yeah, that happens all the time. HA HA HA HA HA You could fall out of your truck when you open your door too, if you don't have your seat belt on. But it because it "could" happen, doesn't mean it ever does. Regardless of what your safety idiot tells you.
