A dramatic turn for the worse

I hear ya on Barr Nunn becoming more corporate and less driver friendly.
Those USPS, UPS, dhl , and FedEx loads pay (the company) very well.
If a driver wants to run hard they can make decent money.
I'm not greedy. I'll give my company about 8-10 hrs of driving and about an hour or so on duty, but I'm not killing myself beyond that.
I ran for them 2 1/2 years and for the first 2 they treated me great.
I run much better late in the day and all night. ( im not a morning person) i only seen NE a handful of times, new Jersey was about once a month, and the rest of that ,time was the south and midwest.
However starting around the fall of 2012 they seemed to get greedy, and started to push me up and down the i-95 corridor, and my relaxed evening schedule became way too erratic, dealing with morning and evening rush hours.
I dealt with it for a while, but this was not what I had signed up for, and I began to get opinionated.
This ruffled their feathers and they really started nitpicking and micro managing me.
There were some really good people at their Charlotte and Manchester yards.

 

Remember there's thousands upon thousands of trucking companies. So some research and apply and I'm sure you can find a better outfit to work for. My first two companies were horrible. No safety. They got mad at me... because I drive the speed limit, wanted me to drive a truck with the maxi dragging on the ground. But I assure you there are still a few good companies to work for out there.

 

Please spell out what constitutes 'decent money' in your book.

Some people consider $500 per week to be 'decent money'. Others don't.

Let's have some real numbers? How much money, for how many hours per week?

 

3 years ago I was averaging 42k a year, plus bonuses of about 2k yearly. I had at least 4 1/2 to 5 days off plus usually a 34hr reset between home time.
I did not have hazmat, and just took my time...no tailgating, no speeding tickets.

 

So, $44K / year, working on average a 50 hour week, and 6 nights away from home?

 

Negative on the 6 nights away. I drove about 2 weeks (meaning 12-15 days), and took about 2-3 days off, then drove About 2 more weeks and took another 2-3 days off. If my hours were running low I'd request a 34restart, which sometimes was at home, but more than likely at a truck friendly hotel.

 

That couldn't be at Barr Nunn. I left there making $71,000 a year running just like that. I might go back as an O/O if Landstar doesn't work out. The revenue at Barr Nunn as an O/O isn't the best, but it is consistent and they work with the O/O when they are having problems.

 

OK, that's your fantasy, I was a company driver. What I stated about how I ran and what I earned is fact..good or bad in your book.

 

sure it changed a lot since I was there in 04 went from making 28 cpm to 35 cpm and taking home $600 less a month. not to mention they shorted miles back then and I even talked to Bob a couple times about it but had to leave after 4 months couldn't afford to drive for him. do they still have Pella doors and windows. I notice they lost a few of the accounts they had back then like jc penny future..

 

Glad I read this was giveing them some serious thought, also glad to see I am not the only one something like this happened to.....JS Helwig did the same thing to me said I was an excessive complainer but it took them 2.5 years to say something, 100% on time p/u and del no accidents or incidents and one of their top people to repower TYSON and Cargill loads for on time dels
