My husband is getting used to the road but it can be very lonely. He is a great guy, loves music, football, well any sports lol, and our family. Most of our friends just don't understand how important talking to him while he's out is right now. Are there any websites for I don't know, phone pals or whatever? I talk to him whenever possible but then there are times like in the middle of the night when he is driving and I can't talk because I take care of our daughter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Trucker advice for newbie loneliness from family or phone pals???

Get him a nice CB radio with a skip antenna so he can talk to the other truckers on the road. Those guys are just as Lonely and just looking to chat. Try channels 11 and 19 to startOoops Thanks this.

Dunno...... I'm pretty fresh into being single.... In part because of this job, but mostly because she's a deceitful liar.
Do whatever you have to do to communicate. Pour your soul into it if it means anything.
Bluetooth, cheap cell plans, email... I guess your situation is a bit vague. What can you do - technologically? Financially?
EDIT: Your friends sound apathetic to your plight. Note that 'pathetic' is 8/9's of that word.Last edited: Dec 16, 2016

Have him join this site, and go beyond cb and get ham. Airwaves are quiet compared to a decade ago, but you can still find guys wanting to chat. Repeater networks are running out there, and you'll find some interesting people.

Oh I remember that feeling when I started trucking 2 years ago it was rough especially the first year I just made friends @ the companies I worked at we got to talking at the yard an exchanged numbers We'd call each other about everyday I mostly talked to my trainer he helped me a lot especially when I went to pick up or deliver at a new place I've made some good friends by doing that it's helped me & I call my lady when she's off work and a cb helps too

if u can send video on ur phones send him video of the kids or animals or whatever, no matter how simple it may seem it will keep him connected with home, if its snowing or a thunderstorm send a video of that or pics,if u have a dog send a dumb video of the dog , also any kind of text images during the day, google any images that come to mind, funny images etc, i do a facebook page for my family from the road, post where i am with map images, they respond with somthin about their day, keeps everyone connected even while ur busy its there to look at when u get a break. these drivers that talk about when we had to stop an use a payphone, well i did too back then but those days are over, there are many ways to keep in touch now.cybill234 Thanks this.

Unfortunately, as we found - it's difficult to maintain friendships or community in OTR.
You're often not around for community events, parties etc. You don't see your neighbors often. On the upside, you learn who your real friends/family are.
I'm not sure if it attracts recluses, or makes them.
It either destroys or saves marriages.
Get a CB with a good antenna and mic, - I always find someone to #### chat with for a few miles. You just have to have a good sense of humor.bzinger and CaptainDaveG Thank this. -
I listen to TV. Makes the day fly. I also have XM radio as I love sports. Your TV provider will have an app put in your account info and it works. You can't watch everything but we have movies etc. I just pick something and Bluetooth it thru the truck radio. Plus me and my girl try to "set" times to talk or FaceTime
At least you care....that's what's most important
