All of my sign / over pass shadow alerts have been recognized as false positives and the brakes have never self-applied.
There have been a few unnecessary applications tho when cars are about 9/10ths into their turn and are out of the path of travel that it still detects them... then I'm left trying to recover the gear and hoping I don't get rear-ended. It's garbage.

Mine does that too going under over passes but never slammed the brakes. Only way to override that onguard is to hit the gas. When I was in bumper to bumper traffic it slammed the brakes, gave me a jolt! I knew the dang car was slowing but I was creeping just fine. Artificial Intelligence is happening just as predicted by Mrs Connor. We must help Kyle Reese protect her unborn child John who will lead us from the ashes and destroy Skynet.

The Cascadia day cab I was driving for a mega locally. That M/F thing would SLAM on the brakes & the jake when I would go under " The Stack " ( series of bridges where I-10, I-17, and two major boulevards come together ) here in town at 0100 in the morning without a soul around.
If anyone would ever been behind me, accident for sure.Toomanybikes and JC1971 Thank this. -
Ive heard some stories about that. It would be one reason for me to get out of trucking having large vehicles decide it's time to apply some brakes on ice. Forget it.
Throw that one on the Robot Otto, if it brakes on ice and makes a carnage behind it... because of a freaking sign told it to. What is this world coming to.
My first encounter with vehicles equipped for anti collision braking was in the auction house, was using a bit of horsepower to move out and the vehicle did nothing, even took away the hammer. Everyone laughed. They told me about these systems that will decide for you if it wants brakes give you any engine or not etc. That was when I decided to drive older vehicles with no technology in them or very basic hardware level computers that do one thing for the engine ignition or something. Nothing more.QuietStorm Thanks this. -
Not true it will still brake hard ,cruise or not.
I also have the on guard system and have it do it. It was last winter 32 and wet out fortunate for me Louisville had done a good job treating the roads some Jackwad cut me off Then slowed, bam hard break.
And on a regular basis when I'm on 80/94
Only one way to prevent this.
1( keep your foot on the throttle so it won't activate.
Unless you know how to deactivate itToomanybikes Thanks this. -
Mine panic braked on me as I was approaching a round-a-bout. The cruise was turned ON but was not engaged.. so when it saw a vehicle in the circle.. WHAMMO!!
No more cruise for me. I had forgotten that it was even on.
That mess is dangerous.Dave_in_AZ and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
I'm driving a '17 Cascadia as well. As you mentioned, it often beeps when approaching an overpass or other overhead structure that produces a significant shadow. Last week mine did the same thing you mentioned; it applied the brakes significantly. It was very disturbing. Having said that, I don't recall another instance where it has behaved exactly like that. I have logged over 80k on my '17 thus far. Generally, the system can be annoying, but it doesn't bother me a great deal. However, I doubt that I would purchase it as an option if I was ordering a truck and had a choice.

On mine, I believe the system only activates when it is on cruise control. I don't ever recall it braking when the cruise was not at least turned on. Even then, if you have your foot on the accelerator it overrides the system. However, the beep will occur when I am too close to the vehicle in front of me regardless of whether the cruise is on or not.QuietStorm Thanks this.

At a previous company, they used OnGuard...during a perceived eminent collision, the system will panic brake even if you are trying to over ride with the throttle. My truck would need recalibration a couple times a year. I knew it was time for a shop visit when it started panic stopping for cars that had just turned into a driveway or side street, completely out of my path, and I was accelerating away, but it thought I was about to hit them.
