I'm sorry, but the likelihood of your new President changing the current emissions regulations (that are clearly in place to make money for the big manufacturers) is laughable. He is a businessman first, and will do anything and everything to please all the top-level earners in the country.

Tug toy is right. Western stars website lists the series 60 as an option.

I did not know that. I stand corrected.

I thought you had to go with a 3rd party builder to get a pre emissions engine.

The fact is, nobody knows what he's going to do. For you to already know his agenda could be considered laughable. The fact that he did at least meet with Fitzgerald can't be a bad thing.

I'll leave it at that to keep from going full blown political.

Customers who purchase gliders are helping the big manufacturers. Gliders now account for 10% of the class 8 market. If denied the glider option significant numbers of those customers would just continue to rebuilt their present units, thus loss of sales. It is not like these customers would just buy a $150k emission truck. They wouldn't buy anything. Just last week Volvo, who has never been in the glider market laid off another 500 employees and eliminated their 2nd shift at the New River Assembly plant. Freightliner is doing better than that.
The case to continue allowing gliders can be made on several points:
Whatever net increase in emissions are emitted by the operation of the engine is offset by the net decrease in emissions by not manufacturing new major components.
The glider is a new chassis with all safety systems brand new. Much safer than rebuilding a 20+ year old chassis.
I think lots of regulations in lots of industries are going to relaxed in the coming months, this could be part of that wave.

    m16ty Thanks this.

As a Canadian with a vested interest in the North American trucking industry, I can only hope you are right... but I tend to be a little pessimistic when it comes to politics, and only see him as protecting "his people" rather than the working man/woman in all of this.

Do not forget the major truckbuilders will lobby to kill off gliders.
And they have a lot off power.

Why would KW, Pete, Freightliner and Western Star lobby to kill off glider sales? Those gliders are more trucks they sell.

Studebaker Hawk and Ruthless Thank this.
