Just be prepared to have your bag searched. I flew to my current job from my previous job so I had my spiral bound atlas, GPS, CB, and a small inverter in my checked bags. When I opened it at the hotel, there was a notice from the TSA in there about my bag being screened and searched before it was allowed to get loaded by the ground crew.

You can pack it in either your checked or carry on luggage. They don't even require you to take tablets or GPS devices out of carry on luggage anymore (still have to take out laptops).

If you want to have some fun, pack some extra wires and a bottle of some kind of gel next to it. :p

It is far simpler to just throw it into a box, fedex it to where ever you are at and have it there when you arrive.

I've flown into, out of and transited the U.S. with all kinds of electronics in both my checked and carry-on luggage... it's a non-issue.

I know but sometimes you get that idiot TSA dweeb who thinks they are god and will tell you to turn it on.

Id say keep it in original packaging if you still have it. Laptops and stuff they see all day long. Inverters... not so much.

Starting a new gig? Travel light. As light as possible. If you need that inverter for a cpap machine, ship it to the trucking company c/o the contact person whose expecting you.

If you need it for a fridge and microwave instead, leave it at home until you are issued the truck, the go home and pick it up with the rest of your gear.
