Engine hours vs Engine miles

None that I can think of. Why?

 

You have no way of knowing that a driver may have idled 24/7 when the truck wasn't rolling if there is not an hour-meter you can rely on. To my way of thinking, engine hours mean more then miles in terms of engine life reduction.

I'd use 55 MPH as an average +5% idle which would lead me to what a truck might have in terms of hours that was not idled excessively. An OTR truck that does not have an APU and resided in the south probably idled a lot if not all the time.

I'd guess this truck idled roughly 25-35% of the time it was not driving down the road.

 

That's pretty low hours. Mine has @ 30,000hrs and 600k

 

Hours for tracking engine, miles for everything else. We can tell you the average speed though. 417160 miles ÷ 10955 = 38 miles per hour. Still doesn't mean much though. Did the truck idle every night? Was it a local truck, spending most of its life in traffic? Idk if an ECM readout could tell you how much time it ran with no road speed, which is essentially idle time.

 

That's about 37 to 38 mph avg. would say there is very little idle time

 

I don't think there is a formula, to many variables to figure it out. My truck when it was at 500,000 miles had approximately 14,800 hours showing. Not sure if that is within reason of not but just giving you an example.
