I picked up 3 generators today that were wrapped in the thin plastic wrap. I was told that the plastic would protect the generators from the weather. I laughed but you can not argue with some people. Anyway the wrap did not last 5 miles before it started to come apart.

Has anyone had problems with the receiver when you stop and remove the plastic? I worry about the stuff coming off as I travel down the highways and byways. Anyone ever gotten a ticket? Littering? Unsecured load?

Usually a half a roll of duct tape to hold down any areas you suspect may unravel, the second half of the roll for what you see flapping in the breeze once you get moving down the road.

Never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it but wouldn't rule it out either. It's at least worth a call to the reciever to see if they care about the wrap being intact or not.

Some feedback to the shipper would probably be a good idea, too.

I've always had trouble with shrink rap coming loose going down the road. I too have had to stop on the shoulder and fix it or remove it. One time I didn't notice and it must have been blowing close to 50' behind me before I noticed. Never tried the duct tape, may have to try that.

If rapped up good, it does do a pretty good job of keeping water out, providing it doesn't come loose.

You would think that if they were really interested in protecting it from the weather with plastic, they would use that industrial heat-shrink wrap like they use on boats up north when they store them for winter.

That's what they use but it doesn't hold up to flapping around in the wind.

No different then a tarp. If it gets moving it will tear itself up.

Good shrink wrap and tape to keep the tail from working loose, and maybe a few strips over and around to keep it taught. If wrapped right, and a decent quality wrap will protect and last. Minor moisture is not what they care about. They just dont want it looking like its been sitting in the back 40 for 8 months...
