Shoulda cat scaled it before you put in fuel.
I just ran a heavy trailer from Los Angeles to Spokane up through California, Oregon and Washington. Chowchilla scales redlighted me because trailer was cat scaled at 34040 at the California hole. They announced that I'd won a prize, could I please pull around back and enter Bay 4? Got the 7 stickers as my prize.
Oregon redlighted me, and Washington redlighted me too but they ultimately let me roll on even though their scales showed 34100.mjd4277, QuietStorm, RedRover and 2 others Thank this. -
Not trying to be a dick, but how do you not know this already? You've got your license and presumably are on your own, and you don't know this already? This is 1st day of training in the truck type of stuff. Again no offense props for asking, but your trainer should have gone over this.

I didn't know the APU exception was a real thing but I guess it is. It varies between 400-550 lbs depending on the state. Here's a map
https://www.energy.gov/eere/vehicles/map-state-recognition-auxiliary-power-weight-exemption
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 allowed for a national 400-pound exemption for the additional weight of idling reduction technology on heavy-duty vehicles. On October 1, 2012, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) became law, increasing this weight allowance from 400 lb to 550 lb. Each state can adopt this exemption, at its own discretion.quatto, Jdm5jdm5 and scottied67 Thank this. -
What would you think is the max they would let you be on the gross, as far as letting you slide, if any -
What would you say is the max on gross and axle weight that they would let you slide with -
Some states very strict, other states 500 to 1000 over is often overlooked
Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this. -
Never been over gross but have been over axle a few times. Used to get loaded in Livermore and have to cross the Livermore scales to find a cat scale. Slow rolled across and got the red light at my trailer tandems, I look over and me and the scalemaster had a staring contest. He blinked and green lighted me. Got scaled 100 miles out and discovered I was 34180 on the trailer.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this.

Good plan. If you are worried about it download Trucker's Path. You can see if the scale is open.
If I know I am going to pick up a heavy load I NEVER fill my tanks before picking up or scaling. I weigh BEFORE fueling, then do the math to calculate how much fuel I can carry and how many gallons I can add. This is part of the job. Start making it a habit. -
500 lbs,they won't say much if anything.Jdm5jdm5 Thanks this.
