In other words, freedom scares you. I'd rather have life be more risky with more freedom, but that's just me.

So then the question as to WHY these drivers feel the need to race through these areas with lower speed limits needs to be addressed. The 14 hour clock nagging at them plays a role. The absolute nature of the elog enforcing that 14 hour clock plays a role. Dispatch breathing down their neck to get the job done in spite of all of that plays a role. The "more miles" mentality plays a role, exacerbated by the fact that they can only make miles when they have hours to roll and that clock is ticking. The list goes on, but the simple fact of the matter is they feel it necessary to run against the speed limiter any time they are driving, which earns them the high dollar driving awards despite the fact that their truck CANNOT speed on the open highway.rogueunh, lilillill and Duurtipoker Thank this. -
If you think about it, ELD is not really needed, all they have to do is install cameras at the scales and points of entry, read the plates/DOT numbers off the truck, facial recognition, and they can see when you left, who was driving, and date/time stamps everywhere you drove past. There are several states that already do this, it is just a matter of connecting it all together, the technology is there, and I know CBP is looking at it under the guise of security. How long do you think it will be before they start comparing your logs to what they have collected at the various scale houses and cameras scattered about the roadways? East to do, and they will do it under the guise of the meth-head that took out a family on the interstate, and they need to do it for safety, the public will back them, just as MADD did with the horrific crash photos.

Elogs really dont limit mileage, just teaches the driver not to waste time, keep the door shut and roll. Keeps dispatch from messin with drivers and does not allow companoes to run drivers till they drop.
I un a paper log currently, I have used eld's, I thik the river is safer and better off with the eld, also did not impat my earing ability, not at all. -
I do like to stop and admire sceneries sometimes. Do some hiking. I carry my bike on the truck sometimes. I like to stop and take a nap or watch Chicago Hawks. 14 hours make people automatons; drive, drive, drive, glue your fat ### to the seat and drive don't waste time. All that haste is more dangerous then relaxed tempo, and let it be even 24 hours instead of 14. Revoke ELDs and in addition 14 hours rule!
