Area Needed for Turnaround

Just an FYI.. Using Googles measurement tools, the first id 80' round, while the second is about 70' round (Or whatever shape you want to call it.

If you are using the desktop maps version, simply right click on the map and select measure distance. Then left click on the other side to get an aprox. distance...

 

If your longest truck is 65', a circle that is 70' in diameter would be efficient enough. Guaranteed.

Now if you have a spread axle, you will need significantly more room.

 

Another thing to consider... where will the trailer tandems be when the truck enters the hatched area?

You can jack the tractor 90 degrees to the trailer and pivot the trailer on the tandems where they will act like the point of a protractor. The nose of the trailer would define the radius of the circle.

A tractor trailer will do a tighter u-turn if the tandems are slid all the way forward, providing that there is enough room for the tail swing.

So in this case, if the truck is tight to the building on the right, you should be able to pull the full length of the truck into the hatched area and have approximately 43' of forward space left by the time the rear of the trailer clears the building. If the tandems are all the way back, you'd need a radius of 60 ft or so minimum from the center point of the tandems, arcing in a counter-clockwise direction.

If the truck enters from the center between the storage and the building, is there a 60 ft radius to either?

This entire thread complicated everything. He said he has 115' x 148' lot to do the turnaround.

Short answer is, with a lot that size, k turn is unnecessary. A simple u turn can be done.

My suggestion... Ask the drivers that deliver there as only they can see it in person

 

I have done a U turn on the interstate using 4 lanes to off load a busted trailer in west Virginia, I think? it was back in the day. Not all drivers will jack a truck like that and it was a cabover with s 53 ft. Trailer. Drivers shut down the highway 4 me until I got backed up to it in middle of the bridge. 17 years ago, best company payday I ever seen.

 

That was with tandems all the way foward.
