They have the worst vacation pay wording. You get 1 week and a year but don't actually earn it until 2nd yr.

Good for you putting in a notice. I worked a few months as a 3rd shift stocker to make enough money to pay for me CDL I gave a 2 wee notice. Trucking didn't work out and now I am at a sister store making very good money.

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that they're allowing you to take paid vacation before you've actually earned it. You know, so you can use it without having to work for another year?

My company does this as well.

I worked at a job, so many cents per hour were deducted for vacation pay from all the workers and put in an interest bearing trust account. Come February 1st they'd mail out last year's accrued vacation pay plus interest.

No, it's not common. At all. You NEVER get fronted vacation pay or time, it's always earned.

It's common with the companies my friends, family and neighbors are employed by. Not every one, but enough so that i use the word common instead of rare.

It certainly is where I work, and we have the option of cashing it out.

You are not gonna get that with Estes. Estes is one of those big companies that will screw you. To them, you are just a number. If you leave or get fired, another possible sheep (one who just follows along)will come aboard, get into a comfort zone, and never leave.

It's been almost 6 months since I started this thread. I have since started with another company. A much SMALLER company which has been around since the 30's.

Once a week I make a transfer to the corporate office and can walk right into the company CEO's office or the VP's office. ...and they know who I am. I'm not a number.

Screw Estes. I'll never work for a large company again.

I actually do work for a larger fleet, and all things considered they're not bad.

    I've certainly seen worse.
