xD
Lets say i have a load that needs 4 Binders. Can i use 2 Chains total and hook 2 binders to each chain? To cover 30,000 lbs lets say? Because i always went off of 6600 LBS as thats what my Chains are rated for...RStewart Thanks this. -
The chain is the weakest link. It is rated at 6600. Nothing changes that. Now some freight allows you to use 1 Chain and 2 binders at 2 different points. A hummer for example. But that doesnt change the wll rating.
So say you got an armored hummer that weighs 17k lbs. It must have 4 points of securement because it's wheeled machinery. 1 chain in the front, 1 in the back and 1 binder at each corner. Hook a chain around the trailer spool. Fish it up through the securement ring on the machine and tighten your binder. You've got a 16 ft chain but only used 4 ft of it. Fish the slack through the ring on the other corner then hook around the spool. Tighten the binder. 1 chain, 2 binders, 2 points of attachment. The wll doesn't change, but in effect you have used 1 long chain as 2 short ones.Airborne, RStewart, Highway Sailor and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank you

The chain is your limiting factor with 1 chain and one binder. How would adding a second binder increases the WILL of the chain? One chain with 2 binders on it would still have a WILL of 6600lb. 2 Chains with 2 binders on each chain would have a WILL of 13,200lb.
Do you mean hooking it up as if the one chain was acting as 2 chains by having slack in the chain between two separate securements? If so then yes as it is no different then if you just had 2 shorter chains or cut that chain in two.Airborne, Highway Sailor and Klleetrucking Thank this. -
Ok, now I have a question. No one has ever corrected me, so I just assumed I was legal. Am I?
Humvees, tractors, etc, if it's under 12k, I've always only ran two chains (one on front, one on the back OR one each side), each with one binder. I run the chain around 2 spools, up through the tie-down point, whatever kind it may be, through the other tie-down point, and back down around 2 spools. My binder between the 2 tie-down points whenever it fits. If it doesn't fit, I'll put it on one end or the other.RStewart Thanks this. -
That's not legal. Using one binder you don't have 4 pts. All wheeled vehicles/machines over x lbs have to have 4 pt securement. Have to look in the book to be sure, but i think it's 8k lbs.Airborne, Highway Sailor, RStewart and 1 other person Thank this.

I'll look it up too, was unaware of that regulation.

I look it up every time i got something light weight on wheels, but it doesn't stick. It could be 10k lbs. But also could be 7500. I do know it's low enough that it basically almost never applies to the freight i haul. Besides, i never go with minimum securement. No such thing as too much securement so if possible, if it's on my trailer it's getting 4 points.Airborne, Highway Sailor, RStewart and 2 others Thank this.
