If you have a Cummins, the DEF fluid Dozing unit houses the filter. This is where the pump and controller is. The filter is inside, you unscrew a cap to remove it. Cummins is very generous for changing it. They recommend 6700 hours, 480,000 km or 300,000 miles.

That's what Cummins recommends, but we do them at 4500 hours to keep it at the same time as the DPF cleaning. DPF cleaning, clean fuel & DEF dosers, clean differential pressure sensor ports/tubes, etc. We call it the emissions service, some things get done a little early, but much easier to do all at once. For our application, 4500 hrs is pretty close to a year, so we do the air dryer and other yearly items at the same time as well.

If KW's are like the Pete's. The dosing unit is on the back of the DEF tank. On the bottom of the tank, there are 3 bolts holing a metal plate on the bottom. Remove that and the filter cap is right there.

Yeah, for sure. They are easy and cheap enough to do. Some people just think they are every service or something like that. Nothing wrong with early filter changing, but no need to waste money unnecessarily either.

Way overcomplicated than it needs to be. There is no need to remove any fairings or steps on any models. You also dont need to remove the bottom cover. Remove the bolt closest to the tank and loosen the other 2 and it will fold down out of the way. The pump housing is not aluminum, it is all composite. A dab of dielectric grease to the threads makes the next change much easier.

This filter is for 2010 to 2016 Cummins and Paccar pumps. EPA 2017 and newer takes a different filter as it has a different pump.

    Good video otherwise..........
