Looks like one of those FedEx Ground wiggle wagons that have been mentioned many times in threads here . He was either an O/O or driving for an O/O that owned a small fleet .

The updated story now says the 2nd FedEx driver has died as well. Makes that two hour detour I had to take seem so insignificant.
At the time they were saying (on the cb) that FedEx had struck a low boy on the shoulder, but this report states that the other truck was moving slow in the right lane. Also says the other driver was out of hours and should not have been driving. What are the chances he'll face charges? -
America's Road Team Loses A Friend:
America's Road Team and the trucking industry lost a Captain and good friend last week. Tony Sifford, FedEx Ground, lost his life while he and his team partner, Rodney Palmer, were on their regular run from Virginia to Dallas and back. Rodney lost his life the following day from injuries. Tony, a member of the 2007-2008 America's Road Team and a member of the North Carolina Road Team, will be remembered for his passion and dedication to safety and the industry, and for his big smile and twinkle in his eye. A Memorial Fund has been set up for his children, Hannah (12 years old) and Isaac (a freshman in college.) Contributions can be made to: Tony D. Sifford Memorial Fund, Grayson National Bank, P.O. Box 1177, Hillsville, VA 24343 (276)728-2810. Cards can be sent to: Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sifford, Isaac, Hannah and Gena Sifford, 16 Oakland Hts., Hillsville, VA 24343-3662. Please keep Tony and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Contact: Elisabeth Barna, ebarna@trucking.org or 703-838-1945.

I know this is an old thread..but I feel I must comment. I had the pleasure of knowing both of these men. Rodney was my teammate on this exact run that he and Tony were killed on. Not a day goes by that I don't think about these two, especially Rodney since we shared the very same truck that he got killed on no longer than a month after I left. Matter of fact, it was the same run we use to do. I miss these two very very much and still breaks my heart thinking of their families. Tony would do anything for anyone, and wouldnt think twice!! Miss his laughter and friendliness. Rip my dear friends!! Miss you!!!
truckthatpassesyouby, sevenmph, mjd4277 and 5 others Thank this. -
Thanks for bumping! I passed this wreck while it was still smoldering. Read about it that night when I got home and was able to get online (pre smart phone era)
I remember a disabled truck had just pulled off the shoulder and was running about 10 mph in the right lane. Sad chain of events.
