Anyone know anything about training? Is it just their orientation or do they make you drive with someone else first? I've only been driving for about 6 months; so I don't want to go through yet another training program....
Any help here would be appreciated.:biggrin_25511:

Unless they have really changed in the last few years, you won't need to worry about that. If they don't feel you have enough experience to turn you loose with a truck, they won't hire you.

Why does this post show up on every thread of this category? I thought duplicate posts were a violation of the rules?

Where ? I found a decent fit here at Knight. I can go on on about the things that piss me off about them BUT the money is there AND I get home frequently, that is important to me. Without those two things they are no better than the rest of them.

    Your results may differ

I'm sure that your experiences at Knight are a direct result of a few things.

    1) First and foremost YOUR attitude. It sounds like you have a very good one.

I also tried to have a good attitude when I worked for them, but over the months my attitude deteriorated. For the following reasons:
    A) Being sent on wild goose chases to find non-existent trailers, (on MY nickle)
    B) Being forced to make local drops and picks in every major city, (at less money per hour than they paid local drivers for exactly the same work,) just so I could get a dispatch with decent miles
    C) Having local, drop and pick, and reimbursement pay delayed until I would have to fight for it
    D) Having an ridiculously high health insurance premium for a very low quality plan

    2) I can see where if you have the right dispatcher, and are out of the right terminal, Knight could work very well for you.

    3) If you are on a dedicated run.

No company is a perfect match for ANY driver, or perhaps that should be reversed to no driver is a perfect match for any company. It just depends on what works, what almost works, what you can live with, and what you just can't tolerate.

I found that I just could not tolerate Knight, but I know of several drivers that have been with them for years. It is all in what works for you.

I'm still fairly new with the company, two months next week. I had high hopes for the company coming from a mom and pop trucking company that I ran 13yrs for. (Got tired of the reefer). The first cpl of weeks were spent running up and down the I-5 but made really good miles (enough to have to reset hrs once a week). Then got sent out east and have been out here going on 5 weeks and trying to find a load home sooner or later. But having to deal with a diff terminal every load the miles have come very hard and have sat quite a bit. Everyone is right when they talk about the great trailer hunt and it can be very disappointing when you pull into a customer and they have 50 trailers in the yard and you cant take a empty or they are being used for storage.
Now the key to all this is your attitude:biggrin_2552:. You have to realize your driver manager isnt trying to screw you, but its other terminals looking out for there own, this is how its gonna be untill the company comes together and works as one, will it happen who knows the rumors are out there(note to myself, stay out of terminal break rooms they are the worst).
I have been driving for close a quarter of my life now and know that with any company you will always have good and bad. I have seen quite a few drivers that have been with knight for a long period of time. Everyone gets the pointed end of the shaft now and again and some of the negitive post about knight could be the heated passion that you get when that pointed shafted hits its mark and makes it hard to walk (I'm getting the shaft now) You cant find one driver out here that has been happy with his company 100% of the time, there will always be something to set him off sooner or later.
With this in mind, it was always told to me by a very old wise man that if your not happy with what you doing then its time to move on but remember that you experiances will always follow you including your work history. Work through the bad times and enjoy the good. Knight might not be the best of companys but its far the worst out there. Do I like whats going on right now? Oh heck no! Will I stick it out and find out why so many drivers are staying around for yrs? Yep I've given 25 plus yrs to this buisness what 1 more

    Baack Thanks this.

I'm up and down with them. Today, not so high n mighty. I sat in the NorthWest this week for two days. No excuses for that. What's that the economy is slow,

    1. shut your pie hole and find me some freight.
    2. quit hiring people, what about us who are here and have proven we want to work ?
    3. a 210 mile load is FOUR HOURS not 24 HOURS
    4. I'm sick and tired of catching their payroll errors. I honestly think they know exactly what they are doing.
    5. Stupid frat boy dispatchers. complete idiots, every one of them.
    6. worthless mechanics and their banker hours. I don't have eight hours to spare while some dealership reject PM's my truck AND get's pissed about having to do it.
    7. terminal's not liking each other. Gimme a break, that hurts no one but the drivers and without the drivers you have no business.

The one good thing about Knight is they have taught me that you lie to get results. I knew that before but never really felt good about doing it.

I cannot believe that Mr Knight tolerates his equipment sitting. He should trim around the edges, cut out the fat, and be a little more efficient.
