Saw a driver like that coming thru 270 in the Denver area. Mostly short steel with a couple long beams on top. Straps only, no chains, no edge protection. The top beams weren't flush with the bottoms, so every bump, the back straps would loosen up with the flex of the metal...fortunately the back strap broke and wrapped around his back duel before he went around that last curve getting on EB 70, otherwise I think it would have went it's own way when his truck went around the curve...the dude was just standing there with a puzzled 'WTF happened' look on his face when I passed him...I'm a door slammer, but even I have enough sense to realize that there was something amiss with his load securement abilities.

Being a doorslammer doesn't make someone stupid. But there are plenty of stupid doorslammers

Na, I just don't know a lot about open deck load securement....mostly because I don't need to.

You are correct sir. There's stupid flatbed drivers too. Its just so much more difficult for Stupid to hide with an open deck trailer.

I got one in Minnesota because my registration was still 80000, and i was 98000 and 12 wide and 14'4 tall. I almost started crying. Almost. I was looking at 3 tickets, but they only wrote 1.

They pushed my registration up to 215k to make sure I stayed out of trouble.

So what is involved in doing that here? Different type of inspection to ensure chassis strength and integrity then weight is dictated by that?

    Just paperwork

    Registration is all about revenue

In MN, they will issue overweight permits for your configuration but they are not valid unless you are pre-registered for the total weight.

IA if I recall won't issue until you show them you registered for the weight.

I pick up sometimes at an air conditioning plant. They have big signs in the yard and posters when you check in, explaining exactly how they want the load secured. Some pieces require chains, some require straps with edge protectors placed ONLY in positions that are reinforced.

They don't give you the bill of lading until your securement is done, inspected, approved, and pictures are taken. That's the way it should be.

It never fails that drivers disregard the signage and have to resecure the load. One guy tightened a strap in a nonreinforced position in the middle of an expensive unit, crushing it and that driver was told to take all the load off the deck and go park at a local truck stop and wait for them to repair the damaged unit at his cost.

What's this "personal accountability" you speak of? That's not how life was explained when they got their participation trophies! It's not FAIR!!!!!
