When you feel like a good scotch or whatever but you know you're not supposed to touch it as you need to get going in 5 hours. How do you handle it. Are you strong enough? Do you do yoga? I am talking about casino truck stops and their inviting atmosphere to over relax.

I am sober about 30 plus years. Trucking has alot to do with that.

If I took a small shot of schnapps which is my taste, I add 10 hours to metobalize eliminate the alcohol from system before driving. If I took two shots, 20 hours etc. It's over and excessive time versus actual elimination from body etc.

It is easy not to have alcohol in the body same with quitting smoking. Ive got a pack in a drawer that has not been touched in over a year and counting. I experimented with one and discovered that my stats fell sufficiently fast to require ER support. And that was just one. Verdict I cannot smoke.

Casino gaming, I have a taste for the tables, maybe 200 dollars to stake. When it's gone whatever winnings in the other pocket gets cashed and go hit the road. Sometimes I break even, other times I might double the money. Other times it's all gone. But that's ok. It is not house money or money set aside for bills etc. I witness so many people sink that other money and find themselves in bad shape. That is addiction. The carolinas with the computer poker games before they were finally removed by the people were dangerous. I remember one dispatcher refusing a comcheck for the CBBT toll (30 dollars) and I stuck a 10 into a machine while fueling at manning petro. In 6 minutes I had 110 dollars. and minus the toll on the CBBT paid cash, dispatch flipped out. Eff them. That's a good bridge for eastern shore traffic.

All of these are earthly temptations. The body's own lust cannot ever be filled. In time all that plus the earth itself should pass away and in the Judgement stands a future new Jerusalem in which no one will have to deal with evil anymore. That would be something to look forward to.

I'll do a little bit now and then but it's no where near what it was long ago. I would be engaged in something else if I was not doing the vices. For example I went through approx 6000 dollars in ammuntion during shoots, israeli training and other local combat training situations up from 200 to 500 rounds in a couple hours. Makes the colt very hot for a couple more hours. I have lost count of rounds fired but I think after about 4000 rounds I started getting pretty good with them. I use painted parking spaces, 2 yards apart for each. 4 spaces between me and the bad guy or bad guys plural gives me a good target situation for distance known. Im probably about 20,000 rounds fired already since 2009. That's alot. It shows how much I commit to something when it's the thing to do.

I grew up in a tavern and we were pretty good most of the time. However over the years I think we carted home about three people in total when they had a divorce, or some extreme life changing event that usually involved a loss of a loved one. Then come to our place and try to drink it away only to discover that it did not work a few hours later and there they are feeling too poorly to drive. That was where we kids came in. Walked them home to protect them from drinking and driving.

In my late teens I had some friends who were drinkers and it was no problem to drain a bottle of jack or similar playing a game with them. I usually had a load going somewhere that week and they did what they could to get it out of me before I got it on the road. I actually drove drunk once in a big truck and that story I take to the grave with me, it was a really bad day and I made a mess of eveything too. I did not handle that loss very well. When you love people and they pass on for some people it's a bender.

Ultimately my spouse ex she was a great defender against drinking. Half of her family was scots Irish and drinking killed them when she was a child. Twice I had to prevent her from drinking. But she was a good girl once we learned about why she wanted that stuff in the first place then went out together and solved the problem by getting whatever the problem was fixed. Properly. I audit her home even now to make sure that there is no drinks and measure the one bottle I keep on order at the store in NLR so that the volume matches perfectly.

I can go on. But if you smoke or drink or both, you have to stop at some point in life. preferably while your body systems are still without damage. If you can get it stopped and stay off it 10 years you will see that half the damage accumulated will be repaired and life will be pretty good for you. But it also means to eliminate friends who drink or smoke and cause you to get pulled in for that habit. You have to cut them out too. The good friends quit with you and you two work it out when one is not doing well with temptation. The rest can be discarded as liabilities and it will improve your life.

It is ok to have a little drink now and then. But it has to be a little one. Anything more it becomes a vice or a future liability against you and your family with you.

I do recall that after 1994 there was no drinking around big trucks. And I think it was good for me. And good for every one around me. I remember one drunk in a car who had trouble crossing the I40 bridge into TN memphis and it was not long before the three truckstops took over my radio information of this car and drunk as we stacked up around him in a small convoy. The police were coming down two highways in a herd hunting him. It's a safe bet that he did not get away. Maybe lifes were saved if they caught him fast. That is my hope.

I remember another drunken lout in San Antonio who crashed his Ford Taurus against the decap bar of my number two as i got fuel at that exact time. It would have been me that got hit but my number two took the hit, I pulled up and there they were. The car was a waist high crumple with no space for people inside. How he got out with just a couple cuts? I will never know the answer to that question. He needed to be herded off that 35 NB and into a field near the walmart center not far from the Pilot. Number two bought me a nice dinner as a thank you for providing communciations support and initial evaluation of him and his passenger. The KW 2000 did well, the great dane had a corner of it's bar on the left smashed into two of the rear duals killing one of them. No biggie because number two saw it coming and horsed her to the side and prevented this drunk from literally losing his head on a dead smash center under the doors. If it was not us it would have been someone else he hit.

I remember a saloon truckstop in Amesbury Mass. One trucker insisted on drinking there until he fell down on the dance floor. We shut off his fuel lines and took away his keys as well as pulling three particular fuses so he had a dead truck that wont start. One of us got him going well enough after he slept it off about 16 hours. It was no problem administering the penlight test versus his eyes. They tracked the small light smoothly without bouncing or jerking. That was enough to give him back his keys, fuses and reconnect fuel tanks etc. That place burned sometime in the 90's and it's a great loss to the area but not too bad, Foxboro had one that was rebuilt over time and got really big then so it's not like Boston suffered from no truckstops.

If it's that hard to say no because your wheels are about to be turning you might need to lay it down for more than a 10 hour break.

That said, I'm pretty sure DOT regs only call for 4 hours of sobriety before you can log on duty.

That's not 4 hours since your last drink, that's 4 hours from when you were intoxicated.

Might be a little off topic but I might have a beer with a social family gathering usually during a BBQ, otherwise I won't drink like I use to. The main reason because as you age your testosterone levels drop and alcohol makes it drop quicker. So it's more important for me to keep those levels normal to keep my personal "equipment tool" in check when needed. That's a priority for me than having a drink and that's what I focus on. No need for that blue pill here.

That is to be expected once a man gets past a certain age I think we are built that way because if you were to take on testestrone supplments at 40 or whatever age, you might place certain body systems at risk. Everthing else being normal and healthy, there is no need for the blue pill when enjoying a female.

Our society has gotten quite full of sin and vice unnecessarily what with society being told to sexualize everything beyond reason. Women are not objects. Provided everything is in order inside of your body you will enjoy your wife or lover at any age.

Now if you were sick with a heart situation or some other problems then your ability to reach and hold/maintain high blood pressure values which is determined by your age to have a certain value but roughly 190/120 or so for a few minutes fun with someone is not a burden. But it will hurt you if there is something that needs fixing and you leak excessively at those values or get even sicker and pass out. That's not fun at all.

    Good luck.

You're going to always have the temptation you need to stay away from casinos completely don't even park in the parking lot.

I love my scotch too, and beer. I just enjoy it that much more when I wait till the appropriate time to have it. That first taste....ahhh, thank you Rooster, you earned this. Put it in perspective OP. It is one of lifes little pleasures, not the ultimate goal.
