    Veriha out of Marinette, WI.

Was hoping to get my recent experience and afterward get a more consistent job if I can. Maybe Linehaul, trailer shuttle, or even yard switcher.

Career change, more easier said than done.
Schooling, funding it, paying outstanding debts that the trucking wage was covering,. etc
Just like the number of trucking jobs one has gone through, I'm often curious as to how many different careers one has been through in a number of years. Hell, there are college students that change majors just as often as a trucker will change employers.

I have to admit that I unfortunately became a job hopper. Over my six years of driving I've been to 7 different companies and it finally caught up with me this year. Currently been driving with my current employer just over a year and a job I've been waiting to have a position open up for did. I applied and they told me to show I can stay with an employer before they would consider hiring me. So job hopping finally caught up with me and costs me a golden opportunity.
If I could take back how I started off my driving career I would but now I just have to take my lashings and stick it out with my company. If your looking for the perfect driving job get out of trucking now cuz it doesn't exist. Every recruiter has promised me the world and once I was there I thought I was getting screwed. After I got hired on with my current company I took a good hard look in the mirror and determined that not every company was the problem but my hot headedness and impatience was. So before you leave your current company think about the reason. Some companies screw you none stop and it gets to the point you have to leave, but most situations can be talked out and fixed.

Promise me something and don't deliver?
    I'll quit in a minute.
I put one duffle bag on my truck for just the occasion...when I tell the owner to eat dog poop.

I joined a fly by night company that was abusive to their drivers in dispatch. I was number 228 or so at the bottom when hired. 6 months later I was driver mid 30's out of 240. The senior 22 drivers will die there. The rest were replaced in 6 months.

Company owners ##### about job hoppers. But they are the ones Firing newbies or otherwise problem drivers at the drop of the hat and they then turn around and wonder why so many have several jobs in a short time. This industry is destructive to drivers. No one fires the company owner or fires a dispatcher for being abusive. Even if they don't think they are.

Ive had jobs for as little as 40 minutes when I discover just how #### it is. I walk on principle. Ive been blacklisted before when employers find they cannot get rid of me due to my savings. Cost them thousands in fuel making me think to wait a month on a load. I know how to wait patiently conserving my dollars. I also know how to ... stabotage a company that is very hostile. Cost them mountains of money to fix a problem like I did one time. I would not get away with it in today;'s DAC but they were a billion plus dollar annual business so that little episode only pinched them a little.

When I find a quality company I stay for years. But that does not matter when you go back 10 years or lifetime and see I have had 20 or 30 companies, half of which do not exist anymore having gone out of business themselves for being so bad.

Frankly I don't give a #### what the owner thinks. Im a good driver. if he wants me great lets go otherwise cya. And what a waste.

I visited my highschool about 10 years after I graduated. I discovered the entire student body was silent. Hardly any converstation or horseplay (Lets put it that way) I talked to a few of them, some of whom were kids in kindergarden on my bus when I graduated, so they knew me and vice versa)

Turns out the state staff has imposed so many nicky picky rules designed to enforce a quiet in the school. No horseplay no this no that no nothing. Gets to where its almost impossible to indulge in some joy and fun at all just sit still at your desk and hope you dont get sent to detention for falling asleep. These kids were dead. No spirit in them.

I told one of my old teachers who were trusted about my observation. She laughed and agreed. But she stated that the State found too many horseplay or disclipinary problems and imposed through the staff a rigid system to iron that out.

As long this industry fires any driver at a whim for anything at all, the owners will continue to piss and moan when a percieved job hopper shows up by the dozen.

Sorry, no sympathy from me. They made a mess in their beds, they have to lie in it.

When the minor offense firing STOP industry wide and you hammer out the whoospie into a quality driver maybe in a generation or so we will be something to be proud of. Other than the current apathy filled flip flop wearing piss bottle tossing job wrecking drivers.

I have been on both sides of this problem. When a driver gets beat too much by a string of owners who don;t give a #### for 40 years then there will be no employee willing to give a #### at all. And then the owner is up the river without a paddle.

    It cuts both ways.

    //semi rant.
