Ok. So the put a reman in. not rebuild yours. Not sure what they are calling a hanging kit. Engine mounts?

Ok, so it was the #5 bearing. New engine is nice and shiny red, the old engine....not so much, it's got a fair amount of heat damage. It feels good to be back in a truck.

 

Was this the new Cummins X15 ?

 

It's an ISX, 2 years old almost to the day, 230k miles

 

Ok, so maybe it's all in my head, but this engine seems quieter and smoother than the old one ever was. I don't think it's in my head though, because despite the fact I was able to eventually get to 7.2-7.5 eventually in the truck, it took a bit to get there and hard work to do it. The last 4 months or so I was lucky to get above 6.8, but I just attributed the drop to winter. I know I don't have much to go on and only time will tell for sure, but this new engine has been averaging 7.3 so far. Now, that's only 300 miles or so, and I have ACs on here, but I'm up on 80 and I know my tires are probably low. I didn't put a guage to them when I took off, and after 3 weeks of sitting, I'm pretty sure at least 2 of them have lost a little air. I'll have to be sure to check them tomorrow

 

I don't find it very strange. You had 200k+ on the old one. If I remember right, you never did a overhead or much else as far a normal maintenance is concerned. I would be surprised if you didn't notice a difference.

 

Not really much. Fuel filters at 12k, oil at 24k, air filters at 60k, and keeping the fittings lubed. About what's it cost to get everything adjusted? I guess I should start doing that when I change the air filters. And I've definitely decided I need to start with getting the oil analysis.

 

Shop rate about 500. Watch a few youtube videos and do it yourself once a year.

 

With these newer motors you need once after about a year then depending on the motor 200k-500k afterwards. I know shops that run $400 if that's all you are doing. Man I only get my main fuel filter changed at PMs The others are 100k forme.
