Speaking of dump valves:
Since I'm old and no longer around. Back in the day, when we ran more in the "outlaw" mode. If you had enough guts and were good enough with the dump valve. (This is even before I came to Mercer early 80s)
If over on your drives, when approaching the scales, dump the the rear axle, weigh the steers and the drives. At the green light flip the switch, slowly roll ahead giving the trailer time to air up, weigh the spread. You just lost 2000 pounds off your drives.
Now the rest of the story, You might not be as smart as you think you are. Everything is going like clock work, I had weighed my steers, drives and my spread was sitting on the scales. Waiting for the green light. The loud speaker says driver, back up, put your drives back on the scales. Scale master had it figured out.(you can't just dump a dump valve in front of the scale house window) Lucky for me I was legal that trip.
With the technology in today's scales, the scale master would have to be asleep not to catch you,
You young guys will never know how much fun we had back in the day. But I guarantee, you will have your own stories. Be safe and enjoy Mercer, They are a great company.Highway Sailor, spyder7723, CJndaTruck and 3 others Thank this. -
Good story. I came in right at the end of the good ole fun days. I started in 97 (you probably thought the fun was over by then) & it's not nearly as fun as it was then. It's changed way too much.Lostkeys Thanks this.

@RStewart if they give you the link to the safety training videos, don't wait until the last minute (like we did!) as there are TONS of videos to watch. I think tonight will be a long night LOL.
The driver's lounge is so cool! -
I've already watched them. Had that done a few days ago. Thank for the heads up though.Last edited: Apr 9, 2017
Chickadee Thanks this. -
You are an old buzzard!!! LOL
I remember those days when I first started driving. Most stations had the single platform scales, had t weigh each axle individually. And only had the loud speaker to yell at you, no fancy green and red signs with LED lights. One particular scale coming back into MS from AL we would catch the scalemaster asleep and set down on the air horn. He would come on the loudspeaker" you SOB, you do that again I'm gonna write you a ticket".Airborne, RStewart and spyder7723 Thank this. -
I've caught the scale master watching football, not paying attention to the scales at all there at the AL/MS line on 59Airborne, RStewart and whoopNride Thank this.
