Lots of changes today. Went to sleep last night a Swifty and woke up a Knifty! I may be coming over for some Merc(er)y sooner than planned.

@RStewart
Day one done! A lot of paperwork--the usual! I'm still confused how ELDs work--I guess tomorrow they'll explain that. We chose Qualcomm...it will be installed tomorrow. With the Qualcomm is it necessary to also have the Mercer app going so Mercer will know where we are every 15 minutes? Or will the Qualcomm give an automatic update? I only ask because we put the app on my phone and I may only be with my hubs about 90% of the time. I guess if the app has to be on at all times, I can transfer the app to his phone before I go home.
The inspection was ok. There were several little things--like reflective stickers on the back of the cab above the headache rack and on the mudflaps, two lights, a small air leak on the firewall, the need to use a strap instead of bungies, and a few loose U bolts. Nothing major. We picked our trailer. We were a little disappointed at first as we hoped for a new trailer--there were none available--but we are happy with our choice now. This one has 49 payments left and brand new tires. It is in very good condition. Vince will put our decals on tomorrow. We have one more day of orientation and then need to reinspect sometime tomorrow. On Wednesday morning a few of us are going to get a TWIC card (husband has his, but I'm going to get one too). It seems like we still have a lot to do on the checklist, but hopefully we will get it all done tomorrow (except for the TWIC). -
You will have (and use) the app and the QualCOMM. The QualCOMM is mostly used just for elogs and the app gives you the load data, the ability to scan in BOLs for payment and the like. You will also use the contractor web site to search for loads periodically.
Good luck,
JimChickadee Thanks this. -
I have the Qualcomm as well, the only thing I had to do was set the time zone. Now the thing to remember about it is.....You must enter your load information . It will not do it automatically. Also if you want a printout of your logs it only saves the last 8 days. It took me about a month to figure these two things out. I have to give credit to Pete, he blogged about the load logging which brought it to my attention. With the Qualcomm it's my understanding that's how they track the truck and not the phone. If I'm wrong I think someone will correct me. Another thing I found, They will send you load information on the Qualcomm as well as the app. The appointment or deliver times could be different. I found the correct time will be on the app and it will be Blue. Once again if I am incorrect please correct me
