Right now we are pretty full. But new trucks are on order. All our new Volvo trucks coming for the flatbed fleet are double bunk trucks. So it is no longer true that I have the only flatbed double bunk truck. But I have the only double bunk Freightliner. Also, all our trucks have an APU, refrigerator, and a power inverter. As for benefits, they have health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401k, and life insurance. If you are a single driver, they pay 100% of your health insurance premiums. I personally have my health insurance through my wife's work. My wife likes it that way so she can stick herror head in the office where she works if she has questions. Britton provides our vision and dental for us, and it's pretty reasonable., although I don't remember off the top of my head how much it costs me. If you explain the plans to visit overseas right away, I dont think that'll be a problem. This company knows people have a life outside the truck. It would be unpaid time off, at least for most of it. And you may have to turn in the truck and get a different one when you return. But I don't see them telling you no on it. As for the Canada thing, they'd work with that too. I know they'll hire guys who can't go up there. For both divisions. If it changes, and you can go later, just tell the dispatcher you can go now, and he'll say "sweet" and occasionally send you. This company is really easy to work with on most anything. Just tell the truth and keep them informed.

Hey MrEd or anyone else here from Britton, I just applied for a flatbed position. Any ideas where I might run out of Sioux City? I can go into Canada. I'd like to avoid the Northeast if possible. I have 2 years experience as a flatbedder.

Hi Bud A. Sioux City will be a pretty good place to live working here. We load at Saber Ind. pretty regular. Also have loads from Watertown, Brookings, Sioux Falls, and Omaha that go up or down right through there. I don't know what your home time requirements are, but that should work pretty good. I think you'll like working here. Everyone is real easy to get along with. And we make pretty darn good money too.

The several Britton guys that follow this thread are all flatbed guys, myself included. On flatbed, we get a pretty wide mix of long and short loads, with an overall average of around 700 miles counting empty miles. I know van/reefer is higher than that, but I can't say exactly. Probably right at 900 averaged out. Sorry I can't help ya more there.

Also, we do not go to the northeast very often. If you go past Pittsburgh, Pa more than once a year it would surprise me. I personally dont mind the n.e., and dispatch knows that, and I still don't go very often. That shouldn't be a problem for you.

Do you go around Little Rock, Ar. If so, what would be hometime.

@Bud A. ...I'm from Sioux City and have opportunities for home time pretty often. I roll through Sioux Falls so much that I just keep my car there. That way I don't have to worry about truck parking in Sioux City. We have a drop lot in Sioux Falls.

I've been through there a handful of times in the past year. Can't say for sure, but it seems to be they'll find loads to route you home or get you close as long as you give the dispatcher a heads up. They seem to be good about that.
