Do they require endorsements before you apply? Been doing foodservice for 5years and just moved to Tucson they are looking like the best option around here.

I've been in the food service as well for the last 12 years...I applied with Saia last Monday for the Tucson yard. I only have doubles endorsement. No hazmat...They haven't called me yet...I'm starting to wonder if I needed all the endorsements on my license or is because I don't have an Az license!

I have a clean record and have been with the same company for 12 years..They advertise they need drivers there. I wonder if there's a waiting list.

All major LTLs require the endorsements. Don't forget tank in addition to hazmat and doubles. I don't know if they'd hire and provide a grace period to give you time to get your endorsements or not. I've heard some companies will do that, but I don't know about Saia.

Don't wait for them to call. Remember there's a large corporate structure, but each terminal is run like its own business. Call the terminal manager. You might not even be on his radar yet. He will be able to tell you if you need all your endorsements first. Don't expect a fast process. Most LTLs take a month or more to get someone hired and started.

Do they require it, yes. But some do not require it before being hired. We had a driver come on here in Lexington that fit the "team" aspect of what my TM was looking for and was given 3 months to get his hazmat. Applying to an LTL without doubles/triples is basically a shot in the foot. It is what we deal with and for Saia, for instance, you may be selected to do linehaul emergency cover on the weekend and without it, your worthless.

So you can get hired without them, but ANYONE and EVERYONE with them that applies will be looked at before you unless you have some sort of something in your credentials that makes you stick out above the rest.

I will say this, no matter WHAT LTL company you try and apply for, do it MONTHS in advance before the date you plan on leaving your current company. LTL companies plan months ahead of time. It is not like these OTR companies that will hire you the next day after your application is submitted!!!

This is good advice. When I was looking at getting on with Estes, I was working at Reddaway. I called the tm in May and applied for a line haul position and didn't get the position. In the middle of August the tm calls me out of the blue and asks if I'm still interested in a job because he had a line haul opening. After applying again for the new opening and the hiring process I finally started September 23. I waited 4 months to start from when I first applied. This is with line haul doubles/tripples experience with all endorsements.

Top notch outfit. They give you a fancy shirt and prostickers. Its organized.Friend worked there back in 2012.Started at like $21 an hour.$22 and change after 3 month probationary period.45 hours a week.6 or 7 deliveries usually, then 5 to 8 LTL pick ups. Then back to terminal drop trailer in dock. Now Rodney unloads it and makes sense of it all.Everything has pro stickers, pallet, bills etc.Very organized place.Yes,you hustle a bit ,but a good job.
