The questions I asked:
1 - Ask for a copy of the Training Curriculum
2 - What is their pass/fail rate on testing for the 1st time, 2nd time.
3 - What is their retest policy?
4 - What if you need more than x number of hours to grasp a skill?
5 - Is the training 1 on 1, or group?
Now for the pre-work, check to see if your state has an Agency tasked with evaluating schools, if so, see if they have any open/closed investigations or complaints. Do not rely on Yelp or Google reviews, if you find a school , ask here, see what others have to say.
What I did when I was looking was to park across the street, watch, wait for a break and talk to students before talking to anyone else. They will tell you what their thoughts are, don't let the school select who you talk to. Good luck.Puppage, NWTA and redbeard78 Thank this. -
Main question to ask is how long is the school.
160 hrs. is best because you'll have more options as to companies to choose from.
Some companies will hire with less than 160 hrs. but your options are limited.NWTA, redbeard78 and UsualSuspect Thank this. -
Ask how much BTW you get vers classroom . The more time on the truck the better. also what is the placement rate? No reason a school shouldn't be at least 95%. We have had a few students that just obtained the CDL for a backup job in case they were laid off. We use 1 truck for 2 students, this works well. You don't want anymore than that, otherwise you get to much "Lag Time". They learn from each other, and they tell me it is better to watch someone else, they really help each other. Good luck wherever you go to school. Do your best!

I appreciate the input from everyone, thank you.
As for this school they are not giving me a good impression. First I had a phone "interview" scheduled for Monday at 12pm since I live 2 hours away. The recruiter calls me at 12:40pm asking if I wanted to reschedule since I didnt show up. When I told him that HE scheduled the phone interview at 12pm he said oh yeah my mistake. We decided to reschedule for today since my lunch break was over. So here I sat for the last hour waiting for a call that never came.
If this interaction is even a small reflection of their business practices I do believe I will take my business else where, -
Ask for a receipt when you pay
Don't laugh, I never got one
