interior lights

I guess they think it's cool. I do a lot of late night driving and see it all the time. They'll have fancy christmas tree looking light display in the front windshield of various colors for the oncoming traffic to see. As it gets closer to the holidays I may string up some lights too lol.

 

this may not answer the o/p's question, but when i worked for a company, and was passing one of my co-workers going in the opposite direction, we each had lights (usually just one, but read on) and we knew who it was. some had white lights, red lights, green, purple, blue, yellow.....we all knew each other by the color of light we had. sometimes, guys would have to have 2 lights side by side, as there wouldn't be any more colors to take and the 2 lights we could know it was "john", instead of "pete" running green lights. it was just away of company drivers calling out on the cb radio.

now, yes some have said the lights facing the inside of the windshield cuts down on glare, but i never found this to be true. instead, i wore yellow "shooting or hunting" glasses which block out the glare and still give me great field of vision. this is what i recommend to my students, instead of dark sunglasses.......

how many of you have seen drivers wearing those in the pitch of darkness.....??

 

I see these single lights in the windshields of some of the frieght company rigs from time to time, and I figure it's a radio club or company identification, years ago I belonged to a radio club called Freight Haulers Association (I think) we ran an amber light in the center of the windshield and ran on the low side of the radio(865 or 835 if I recall right) to get away from the BS on channel 19. I've still got the membership card here somewhere I think.

 

They're umarked police trucks.They also have a spotlight and rear dash mounted brake lights.######## are getting sneaky.

 

I had a set of purple ones in my rig years ago. They supposedly counteracted the glare from oncoming headlights, and I swore by the fact that they seemed to work. Mine were mounted in the upper corners towards the outside of the windshields.

Plus, we just thought they looked cool. Nothing wrong with lots of lights.

 

The guys and gals who run blue light and red lights that show to theoutside are in for a nsty surprise at the right places in CA. and some other states. Blue lights are for emergency vehicles only, red lights may only be vvisible from the rear of a vehicle. Flashing red lights oon the rear of mororcycles are illegal too, except for turn and emergency flashers. The lsat I heard was CA would give you a $275.00 ticket for any. Red lights dont mess up your night vision and as long as thye arent visibleon the outside, run them.

Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today.

 

Years ago, when trucking was "hip", alot of drivers would put blue, green, red, lights not just on the pillars facing out, but all over in the cab. My guess is they think its cool, or trucker bling, I don't know. When I got into my truck, some ### had put pink and purple lights all over in here and I had to swap out all the lenses and bulbs so I could actually see WTF I was doing at night in the truck. Red lights I guess I could see, red emits a glow that doesn't hurt your eyes at night. One tip is to just dim all the light you can and that helps tremendously at night for driving. Heck, back in the day, i can remember guys actually putting those little colored flouresent light bulbs taped to their antennas that put out a ####load of power and would light up when they talked...LOL..not too smart if you was a ##### talker & CB rambo!!!!

 

I do not know why some trucker are using blue light probably it's better or cool looking in their truck. I never thinking do that to my truck, I just use regular light where my dash is and my cab.

 

I usually go red inside the cab, it's a form of battle lighting. So you can hop out into the dark and be somewhat adjusted.

I don't know about those Anti glare lights emitting 10 watts against a incoming 2000 watt source...

There is one more item, in my personal car, I carried a small 12 volt light either green or red for sign language purposes at night with others inside the vehicle without having to use the top dome light which is white and destroys any chance of seeing outwards at night.

We do not use sign language inside trucks or in gang areas, they shoot at you for it. (Dumbkofts....) espeically if this one (Me.) is a armed citizen.

 

Military pilots are switching to green to prepare for night flying. Supposedly green works better than red.
Used to the "ready room" was bathed in a red glow when the air crews were getting briefed for the mission. I guess it's a green glow now.
