I appreciate the comments guys, and yes, I do understand how the game is played and sometimes you just have to roll with it, deal with each situation as it comes up. I've been a driver for 7 years, 6 1/2 at one of the most hated mega carriers out there, and I never had much problem with them. At least not what everyone always seems to gripe about. Of course, they weren't perfect, and there were times that my loads ended up getting swapped for seemingly ridiculous reasons.
I agree with SSB on this one, it can, and more often than not, does negatively affect your bottom line. When you have an 800 mile preplan, and it gets swapped for a 500 mile load, brother you just lost 300 miles. And I have never given up a good load to have it replaced by something better. I always get short changed on that deal. I understand that is trucking, the name of the game and all that, and if it happens it happens. But if it happens too often, then I'm gonna have to speak up.
My wife is always asking me how I can be a truck driver with all of the changes and unpredictability that goes along with it. I don't like change, I don't deal well with it. Especially when it is forced on me like pulling a load off like that. Like SSB, I like to plan my trips out so I know where I'm going and when. When they change that, it throws me off and I have to regroup.

You want uncertainty, inconsistency, and games? Try expediting. 15 years in a straight truck has prepared me for most of what trucking can throw at me. Nothing is really surprising. And unless I think the company is either incompetent or actively trying to screw me, I can handle just about anything.

One of the reasons I have stayed in OTR trucking so long is the occasional words from my non-trucking friends and family. When I am talking to my wife after 600 miles, after getting 4 or 5 hrs of sleep, and having to it all over again starting at 4 a.m....I hear "I don't know how you do it"...I know, it's an ego stroking/boost...but it's also a sense of pride in the fact that a lot of everyday people couldn't handle the daily grind we go thru on a normal day. This job can be the most frustrating and irritating job, but it also can be the most satisfying and personally rewarding, at least in a sense of accomplishment.

As far as I am concerned, if what the boss said is true, things will go back to how they were my 1st month, then I will be content here. That 1st month, I actually had a little fun and was enjoying trucking again...then after the 1st of June, the confusing times set in, and I started having deja vu. Or as Yogi Berra is often quoted "it was deja vu all over again". I hope it does indeed straighten out like he said, there are a lot of things I like about working here.
Update..."so snackbar, how's your Monday going?"
And snackbar says:

I am running for Blackhawk on a local fleet out of Plant City for James Hardie. Home every day, decent pay. Averaging a little over 1000 per week take home. -

Spoke with my DM today about freight and how well i have been doing the last couple of months.
I asked if freight had increased or was I just having an extended run of good luck.
He said there were some areas where freight was a little weak..by that , the average length of haul was a bit shorter... And then he looked at what I have been doing and noted I have been doing very well. The areas didn't matter.
I have run every area we cover in the last 6 weeks and leaving out the 10 days for vacation i have run out of hours 5 of the last 6 weeks before my recap kicked in.
Happened this week again... I sat all day yesterday in south Georgia then this morning delivered in Atlanta area and picked up west of Atlanta for middle Tennessee. Deliver tonight then pick up at the yard going to Dallas and back to yard Friday for hometime.
When finished I will have well over 5400 miles for 12 days. I can live with that.28, truckerman75103 and Lonesome Thank this. -
