Ports of Los Angeles and LB

    I don't know about those particular ports.

    The experience I had was Baltimore to Norfolk and a little bit of Chester PA for seacan. Unfortunately I carried a 100K overweight license which made for problems with those boxes being 40 foot back in my time before the 45's and so on.

    Money? Sure. You can make a little bit. But you spend a great deal of time going through inspection, queuing for paperwork etc.

    The biggest achilles heel to these containers is global trade. If Everyone in the world decided to build it themselves and not ship to and from (Or even across via land bridges) the USA then things will dry up pretty good.

    We have container trains pass several times a week, and sometimes daily. These are the landbridge trains taking boxes, maybe a thousand east to the atlantic where they go on to europe. I have been seeing more domestic boxes on these lately. So we will see.

    In LA and LB the Teamsters make great money hauling containers. The non-Teamsters are usually 1099 employees, and make $15-$19 an hour. 1099 means you are responsible for your own taxes and ss withholding, as well as your own health insurance.

    I see I have my own truck someone I know is offering me work there i have my own truck so I won't be leasing with them. I also have my own authority is it worth it ? Or should I just purchase my own trailer and pull as far as Nevada and Arizona don't want to stay too far away from the family

    Going with him this Saturday to check it out I won't be able to get in the port but have an idea what he does been driving for years but decided to step in the o/o I'm well aware of many things just getting some opinions of what's best to make money

    I can't answer how much you will make. You have to look at your expenses versus your income, if you can live off what is left then go for it. Ask your friend what his balance sheet looks like, just remember, he has been at it a lot longer, so he is probably a bit faster at it. I repo'ed a truck out of LB Ports a few months back, the line going in was long, and the line going out was just as long. I spent more time getting in and out of there than I did driving it to a yard in Fontana. Might be different if they know who you are, but the port to me was controlled chaos and like the military, hurry up and wait.

    EDIT: You may want to ask in the Schneider area, I know Schneider is 100% O/O out of LB to the Intermodel Yard. I am not sure why Schneider uses all O/O for that, their Intermodel trucks and drivers pickup their containers at the Yard. You can also drive the area around lunch, see if anyone will give you some good info as to the $$.

    I talked to him about $$ for sure he says he takes 2,200 every week including deducting he's diesel he's leasing the truck with the company that's 100$ a week he discounted that as well and putting away for maintenance and insurance. On bad really bad week he told me for me to take home is 1,500 that's the lowest which is not bad I think. See my thing if I drive local is less wear tear on my truck and I know a good mechanic he charges me great price mechanics over the road are more expensive more permits more wear tear on your truck less time with fam I know there is more money on the road but as much as money comes in as much as money comes out most drivers drive an approximate 120,000 to 125,000 a year do the math on new truck it should last at least 9 + with the proper maintenance. Locally I'm driving less truck will last longer in my opinion etc... so just want to figure what's best man that's we will see what happens....

    Is that $2200 pre tax? You will need to deduct your State and Federal taxes. Don't forget you will need to contribute the full social security amount (Individual and employer). Health insurance will also need to be factored in, and some cities in the area also have a local income tax. I am not a fan of YouTubers, but look up So-Cal Trucker, he is an O/O out of the ports and may be able to give you some better insight. Send him a message, he is one of the few YouTubers who is not recruiting or asking you to send money.

    No money in lease ops container work that's why the long Beach and LA drivers have been striking like crazy past few years. And there are some teamster positions but very few, it's a crap shoot no doubt.

    So I work out of these ports everyday. Is there money to make yes. Can you make more money doing a different type of trucking yes! Why do I do it, well I like it for various reasons.

    So if you are just looking to make money being in socal there is a lot of freeway work going on and construction projects. You can put a PTO on your truck and run an end dump. End dumps are in demand with the Ram's stadium being built and some other stuff going on. Great pay home by 3pm.

    I don't like teamsters but it's my opinion and I won't voice that here.

    Every terminal is different! You can go into let's say APL and get a bad row and be sitting there for a few hours. You can also go back into APL get a good lane and be out within 30mins. It all depends on your luck for the day.

    Unless you are planning on booking your own freight then no, I see no need to get your own authority to go in and out of the terminals. I only know of one place that pays different if you do that.

    With anything you do, it is a learning process. There are things you can and can't do at the different terminals also a lot of grey things. Learning these things will help you get in and out of the terminal quicker.
