Mark, again the 730 routes me on a longer (time & distance) route. From Tulsa, Ok to Garnet, NC. 730 wanted to send me I-44 to St Louis to Nashville, etc. Shorter going thru Little Rock to Memphis to Nashville, etc. 1220 miles 20:27 vs 1164 miles 19:21.

Route fastest. Allow freeways, tollways, ferries & tunnels. Avoid U-turns & dirt roads. I didn't notice these routing problems before the map update a month or two ago.

Did not receive a call from RM immediately (provided phone # last night, no call by 1630 today). Rather than wait further, exchanged TND 740 at PFJ today.

Replacement 740 is working so far. Made sure to test sound on the dock before migrating old user files. A few differences from previous 740: have not registered this unit, have not updated DriverConnect ELD app, and did not move all user files over. Only moved (from 730) the following from Navi/User/: AddressBook, History, Trip.db. On previous 740, also moved RM/User files (AvoidedSegment.db, Downloadedtrails.db, etc).

What is the purpose of Memo.db and Truck.db files (in RM/User)?

Will update if major issues occur. So far, sound works while docked. Importantly, address book & history from 730 is present.

Do miss having the current county listed in map view- helpful in understanding severe weather alerts. Previous TNDs had this feature.

    Mark...
I am looking on Amazon for the 740 but i notice that they no longer offer the 740 on their site.

They do offer the 730,720 and tablets.

Is there a reason they no longer offer the 740?

I bought 4 730's and you fixed three of them for me. All four had wear issues where the male power cord plugs into to female power receptical.

I bought the subsequent GPS tablet and am presently starting to see similar problems. The power cord is so heavy gravity eventually dislodges it.

When I use the USB cord it can't keep the battery charged for the day.

Every night I recharge the battery with it turned off.

I do new truck "drive away" and remove the unit after every trip.

Please tell me Rand McNally is working on a power connection that won't wear out.

I love the RM GPS but after 5 with the same power supply connection problem I fear I'll be forced to look elsewhere.

You need to wrap the power cord around the mounting arm to take the weight and the strain off the usb connector and if you unplug it frequently do it only at where it goes into the lighter plug, since doing that I have had no problems with the usb plug on the unit itself as I have had 2 units do the same thing in the past. Maybe your problem is at the lighter plug end with it not making a good connection, take some plastic fork tines and shove them in beside the plug to make a better connection.

    Good luck looking elsewhere...

I have been looking at garmin and their latest unit is 3 years old and will probably be obsolete in a year or 2 ....

I am sticking with my 720 and supplementing it with google maps until the 740 has been around long enough to deal with all it's bugs.

    >> Does this mean i have found the unknown??? if or when i go that route again i will do my best to take a PIC of the screen. I have only seen the mysterious box a few times and no one seems to know what the heck it is. Doesn't a programmer know what they pout in there? LOL

I have two TND tablets that have lost all the mileage records. Anybody know a way to find them?
