Right, and you failed to verify anything with the broker or his customers? Somebody in your dispatch screwed up or outright lied telling you wrong then you got hung out to dry. But you left yourself wide open for that.

    He is your script:
"How do you want to pay my detention time because of changes to the load after we had agreed. Credit card?, I have a reader on my phone or you can send it to my Paypal account? It will be $1100 a day for sitting. I leave in 1hr to take the load back to the shipper and you will be paying for my time and fuel for that trip. Which do you prefer?"

They always think the O/O will take it in the shorts, hell no, I did my job, not my #### up.

Ok, when the broker says "NO" to paying you for anything, than what? When you drive the load back to the shipper, on your fuel, your time and the broker says "screw off", than what? I agree in the scenario you just laid out, there probably is a chance a broker may try to work with you but I doubt for a second you would get anything near what you want.

That s is definitely the way the conversation should start though. Just buissness as usual. Let them fight to talk you down. At this point you fulfilled your contract. The ball is in the truckers court. You have product. If they start whining tell them it will be in storage and they can call sometime the week after next and try and reschedule a new delivery appointment. I have a pre scheduled appointment for one of my other coustemers that day. Sorry?

All I can say is, I would have to be on the phone with, or standing right next to both parties to know the facts of your story. Until than, carry on...

To do it right anyone you use to broker loads should understand (in writing) how changes in the load schedule and lay-overs are handled. Build your own customer base and get off the load boards asap. All of my accounts know me personally and we know each others expectations up front. Screw ups happen, it is trucking after all, but get the agreements of how to handle these situations before they happen.

This is one of companys direct customers. My dispatch told me that shipper screwed up on delivery time, not the company Im leased onto.

Someone in your company needs to grow a pair.
